People tend to forget that when the MCU films originally began, they were a huge gamble. The rights to the most popular characters, Spider-Man and the X-Men, including Wolverine, to name the biggest examples, were tied up at other studios, leaving Marvel to try and make use of their lower tier characters in setting up their shared cinematic universe. Yet the MCU changed that forever, mostly thanks to inspired casting and smart choices when it came to the style and tone of their cinematic adaptations.
