Cygames announced the series, in collaboration with Avex Pictures, on July 5, Medialink licensed the first season in Southeast Asia and South Asia, and streamed it on Netflix , Aniplus Asia , and Bilibili , while Muse Communication holds the distribution rights to the second season. On July 27, , it was announced that the series is getting renewed for a second season, titled Zombie Land Saga Revenge. On October 17, , it was announced that the series would be receiving an anime film project. In Anime News Network 's previews of the fall anime season, Zombie Land Saga 's first episode received overall positive responses, with most critics praising the premise and darkly comedic tone.

The story revolves around a Japanese pop-idol group called Franchouchou alternatively, Fran Chou Chou , the members of which are zombies. They have been brought back to life in a desperate effort to revitalize the Saga Prefecture.
