Dondozo and Tatsugiri have been a reliable duo all season long, and Dondozo-based offensive teams have again been popular choices as Trainers learn Regulation D. The duo of Maushold and Annihilape has been whispered about on the floors of tournament halls across the world, but few Trainers have been bold enough to risk bringing them to events—perhaps Yokohama will be their time? Teams built around Palafin have been flipping around all season, while Kingambit and Baxcalibur have both proven to be powerful despite receiving a little less time in spotlight throughout the year. Flutter Mane may be the one to come out on top, but you should also consider Iron Hands, whose popularity was rapidly increasing near the end of Regulation C tournaments. Chien-Pao is the favorite in this field following a key supporting performance in the Masters Finals of the North America International Championships. Meanwhile, some Trainers are sure to use Chi-Yu on teams based around attacks that reduce the Special Defense of their opponents. Perhaps we should start with Gastrodon—its Storm Drain Ability could be strong in a tournament likely to contain plenty of Rapid Strike Style Urshifu, and you may have seen a tournament-winning Gastrodon appear as a special distribution once or twice in the past.

The Championship Series began with the London Open. As such, it lacked VGC competitions until January in order to make sure things were fair and players qualified only with the special rulesets from the new game. It culminated in the World Championships held in Yokohama in Japan for the first time. Games Played. Regional Championships are set up across the world, mostly in North America, to provide small competitions beyond the Premier Challenges to allow for players to earn CP. There are a number of Regional competitions each year and they all follow the standard format. They often have side events for all players.
