During a flashback, he beats up a pair of kids who mess up his pinball game, and ends up being taken away by the cops, where Gwen sits with him in the back as she searches for her brother. Before his kidnapping, he attended the same school as Finney and was classified the strongest by students. Robin soon took over that title after his kidnapping. At some point during the film, Vance ends up encountering The Grabber , who abducts him. After Vance tries and fails to escape by smashing a hole in the basement wall, the Grabber kills him offscreen. It's thought that Vance was originally kidnapped via him telling the Police he lived at the Grabber's house, Causing him to be dropped off.
