The turbine is expected to ship and be installed in the summer of The existing turbine needed this major component and the specific main shaft assembly was used on only 4 models of Vestas wind turbine: V39, V42, V44 and V Halus specializes in supply and remanufacture of these and other sub-MW Vestas turbines, such as the V17, V19, V20, V27 and V39 and had the specific shaft assembly in stock. As costs for new components and assemblies such as this are in the high 5 to low 6 figures, the school realized signifiant savings by selecting a remanufactured assembly. Locals in the German town of Feldheim have worked together combining green and renewable energies to make their town entirely energy auto sufficient. Energy prices are a huge concern for Europeans across the continent. Many are trying to save money by turning down the heat and shutting off lights this winter. Located about an hour and a half south of Berlin, this modest but well-kept village has been energy self-sufficient for more than a decade. A bold experiment launched in the mids saw Feldheim erect a handful of wind turbines to provide electricity to the village. A biogas plant put up to keep piglets warm was expanded, providing extra income to the farmers' cooperative, which pumps hot water through a village-wide central heating system. Now, 55 wind turbines can be seen but not heard on the sloping farmlands around Feldheim and residents enjoy some of the cheapest electricity and natural gas rates in Germany. Feldheim's hands-on approach to producing its own eco-friendly energy draws thousands of visitors from around the world each year and contrasts with the way Germany as a whole still relies on fossil fuel imports for much of its needs. Letting locals participate in and benefit from the project was key to Feldheim's success, said Michael Knape, mayor of Treuenbrietzen, the municipality to which Feldheim belongs. While wind parks elsewhere in Germany often face opposition, including some economically depressed neighbouring villages, Feldheim's close-knit community approved so many turbines that it actually exports about times as much electricity as it consumes. The village's grassroots approach to generating clean energy contrasts starkly with the prevailing practice in Germany, where large energy companies tend to build and control vast power projects. Small-scale efforts, meanwhile, often face high regulatory hurdles. By Euronews. Share this article Comments. Share this article.

A floating wind turbine is an offshore wind turbine mounted on a floating structure that allows the turbine to generate electricity in water depths where fixed-foundation turbines are not feasible. Locating wind farms further offshore can also reduce visual pollution , [2] provide better accommodation for fishing and shipping lanes , [3] [4] and reach stronger and more consistent winds. Commercial floating wind turbines are mostly at the early phase of development, with several single turbine prototypes having been installed since As of [update] , there are 4 operational floating wind farms, at a combined MW. The concept for large-scale offshore floating wind turbines was introduced by Professor William E. Heronemus at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in

Wind farms continue to spread across Kansas — but with new features that will tone down the way they interrupt wide open skies with red, blinking lights visible for miles and resented by many rural residents. This year, Kansas will get its first two wind farms designed to produce less light pollution — High Banks north of Concordia and Sunflower Wind Farm about an hour west of Emporia. Meanwhile, state lawmakers are considering a law to make other wind farms follow suit. A few states , such as North Dakota and Colorado, blazed the trail in recent years by adopting similar rules. But Kansas, which ranks fourth in the U. Since , new turbines have gone up in Kansas with rotor hubs taller than the Statue of Liberty. The turbines of High Banks will start rotating in December, becoming the highest-capacity wind farm in the state. With recently secured federal approval, the project will also rein in night-time lighting, a quality of life issue for people who live nearby. Commissioners in Republic and Washington counties urged the company to do its best to preserve the night sky with radar-activated lights that stay off except when aircraft approach, and NextEra agreed. In the future, all Kansas wind farms may sport such lights.

Expected Start of Construction : The rugged mountain location regularly experiences gusts in excess of mph, and required robust equipment. It was not until the mid s, after the commercial wind industry was well established, that the topic was taken up again by the mainstream research community. Search 0 Cart. Paul Island, which had been in operation about 8 years, increasing capacity of the site to kW. The constantly shifting sands, ocean winds, and sea spray require the residents to maintain the ever-evolving structures through repairs, reinforcement, patch ups and digging out the half-buried shacks to weather another year or day if the wind is strong enough in the harsh coastal conditions. The family of four can now officially produce their own electricity using solar modules mounted on the roof of their house, and a new utility meter keeps track of what their system produces vs. Nikolski, AK October 5, - Halus was selected to supply one 65 kW wind turbine with custom tilt-up tower for the Alaskan energy generation and services provider TDX Power for use in the city of Nikolski. This important feature of net metering allows the electric grid to be used as a virtual battery, so that no costly storage batteries are required. In California , offshore wind coincides well with evening and winter consumption, when grid demand is high and solar power is low.
