Unfortunately, while Shikamaru has the brains for the job, his power level is significantly lacking compared to his predecessors. Although Shikamaru is a fan favorite for his ability to outsmart almost every opponent he's encountered, he ranks as the weakest Hokage the franchise has ever had, considering the power of the shinobi who have held that position in the past. Throughout Konoha's history, the village's most respected ninja has, more times than not, been incredibly powerful with God-like abilities capable of destroying mountains and moving at the speed of light. Before Shikamaru, the least powerful Hokage was debatably Kakashi, a true prodigy who proved himself to be incredibly capable even after losing the Sharingan in the Fourth Shinobi War. Historically, the title of Hokage has been held by the strongest ninja in Naruto 's world history , Hashirama Senju, then his brother Tobimaru, who invented one of the most absurd techniques ever, Impure World Resurrection. They were followed by Hiruzen Sarutobi, who then mentored Naruto's father Minato, feared by all other Hidden Villages for his power. Then came Tsunade, who essentially invented medical ninjutsu, and, after Kakashi's time in office, Naruto, who is essentially a one-man army capable of godlike feats. Compared to them, Shikamaru sticks out despite his skills. His talents have been recognized and even regarded as worthy of being a Hokage candidate by his former teacher, Asuma Sarutobi, and even Boruto himself. However, Shikamaru's previously stated the role was too much responsibility. Much like in the past, the ninja went against his previous words when called to action and fulfills his duty to become Hokage when the village needs him.

Shikamaru is the only child of Yoshino and Shikaku Nara. When he was young, he once played "ninja" with other children his age. There are a handful of candidates who are clear frontrunners for the position. There is one person, Shikamaru Nara , who might make for a surprisingly effective leader of his home village. It's unlikely he would find himself in the position, but if he was called to action, he'd be more than prepared for the task. Konaha doesn't have an actual king. Instead, the title is a term used by Asuma Sarutobi to explain what the most important thing should be to a shinobi.

It is apparent to Kakashi that Gengo is a major threat to the Shinobi Union's peace and that, in order to protect the Union, Gengo must be assassinated.
