Power Armour is an advanced form of powered combat armour, worn primarily by the Space Marines and the Heretic Astartes , though suits have been created to be worn by mere mortals. It is a completely enclosed suit of combat armour composed of shaped adamantium and plasteel plates, encased in a ceramite ablative layer. Each suit possesses a full suite of life-support functions for operation in hostile environments, an automated medicae system to provide some level of first aid to a wounded wearer and a highly advanced and fully integrated tactical targeting and threat analysis system known as auto-senses. The suit would be heavy and cumbersome to wear but for the electrically-motivated fibre bundles within the armour that replicates the wearer's movement and enhances his strength beyond its already considerable superhuman baseline for Space Marines. Rather than simply being worn, a Space Marine's armour integrates with him. Each suit is a unique artefact with a spirit and history deeply valued by its Chapter. Whilst power armour is most commonly associated with the Space Marines of the Adeptus Astartes, the Sisters of Battle and many Inquisitors also use powered armour of one sort or another.

It also commonly includes numerous auxiliary systems such as communicators and auto-senses. The backpack contains the main power plant, environmental system and additional stabilizers. Whilst power armor is most commonly associated with the Adeptus Astartes , the Sisters of Battle and many Inquisitors also use powered armor of one sort or another. Typically however these armors may not contain the same strength-enhancing properties or life-support functions of Space Marine power armor, nor do they provide the same amount of protection. All armor may further be augmented by various artifacts, relics and enhancements such as pauldrons and greaves. Power armour has been in use since before the Age of the Imperium , from the techno-barbarians of Earth to the original Space Marines created by the Emperor. Over the history of the Imperium , power armor has developed into many different forms. At the end of the Great Crusade the Space Marines found their armor wearing out.

It retains the ability to mount the signature gorget of the main Mk X, though some prefer to discard it, due to improved helmet mobility over the slightly increased risk of a hit to the neck seal. Carcosa's primary clients are the Immortals , but other chapters have since gotten their hands on the armour and equipment manufactured from the forges of Carcosa which include but are not limited to the Imperial Wardens , Lightning Wraiths , White Scars and the Nemean Lions. The first forms of power armour were constructed in Humanity's distant past, during the Unification Wars, to reunite Mankind on their birthworld of Terra. There are those of the Imperium's Historator order who even now claim that the marks of Legiones Astartes power armour that saw service during the Horus Heresy were not the only ones that were worn. Non-production Mark V is a genuine amalgamation of field modifications combining several different marks of armour in ways no Tech-Priest would ever think to sanction. An Ultramarines Astartes armours himself for battle. Some others may even have mismatched suits, with pieces replaced piecemeal as they fail. At least one group was observed to wear composite battle-plate, each part scavenged from other Legions and mixed together with no rhyme or reason, a vambrace taken from a slain Loyalist Legionary of one Legion worn alongside a gorget torn from the corpse of a defeated Traitor Legion, for example. The helmet contains a variety of advanced autosenses, retinal displays, and machine spirits that provide the wearer unparalleled awareness of the battlefield. Likely due to the relentless pace of operations, one Legion in particular made especially heavy use of Mark V towards the end of the war: the World Eaters.
Powered combat infantry armor , [1] powered infantry armor , [2] [3] or simply power armor is a personal infantry combat technology developed before the Great War by United States defense contractors. It represents the pinnacle of personal defensive technology, combining excellent protection from small and large arms with the ability to carry heavy weapons into combat with ease. In the games, power armor is a precious, treasured item, with only a limited number of factions capable of maintaining or fielding them in substantial numbers, much less manufacturing them.
I've read conflicting fluff on this. It is characterised by the beak-like muzzle on the helmet and an auto-reactive shoulder plate covered with molecular bonding studs on the left shoulder of the armour. I have also read that MK VII is the best and would have been used heavily by loyalist forces fighting on terra as it was manufactured there towards the end of the Heresy. Those Space Marines who have turned Renegade since the Horus Heresy obviously wear the power armour that was current to the era when they first turned against the Emperor. These runes provide the wearer of Runic Armour with an enhanced defence against psychic attacks. The larger armour plates composed of these microscopic rings were linked together to allow for a greater ease of movement and most of the power cabling for the suit was threaded inside the plating. However, due to the constraints of Imperial Logistics they were unable to produce enough to standardize the design by the end of the 41 st Millenium. I doubt they'd make heavy use of Mk III as it is usually described as the heaviest and slowest of the armours Clanking suits one story described them as. The Great Crusade continued apace for approximately years at the end of which came a period of political consolidation. The competition for new or replacement armour parts is fierce amongst the Traitor Legions.
