The long-awaited fourth and sadly, final season of the critically acclaimed BBC America series Killing Eve is back , baby! It follows British government agent Eve Polastri Sandra Oh who gets caught up in identifying and tracking down the elusive and stylish assassin Villanelle Jodie Comer. Not only has her growing obsession with Villanelle consumed her professional life, but it also ruined her marriage and nearly killed her now-ex-husband. From the jump, Killing Eve reinvented the spy-thriller genre and infused it with romance. Was it fate that brought them together, and are they even capable of having a happily ever after? After watching these foes-turned-soulmates evolve, mature, and reckon with their past mistakes over the course of the series, it becomes increasingly clear that they at least deserve one. If you need a bit of a refresher , they had just witnessed a very tense and bloody exchange between Carolyn Fiona Shaw , Paul Steve Pemberton , and Konstantin Kim Bodnia.

Eve and Villanelle are back. It's been so long since the last season of Killing Eve that I had to go back to my own finale recap to remind myself how it ended: with Eve Sandra Oh and Villanelle Jodie Comer standing at a distance, gazing at each other, paused on the precipice of who-knows-what. There was a lot captured in that look: yearning, regret, the knowledge that this thing between them was never going to end well albeit better than the last two times they broke up, when one of them ended up either stabbed or shot. But for us, the viewer, there was also trepidation: the most recent season of Killing Eve was, frankly, weak, mired in pointless side plots and totally lacking the zany momentum that made the show so much fun — and that was before a global pandemic threw a wrench in production for two years. Long, lingering looks are all well and good, but they'd have to hit the ground running to recapture that energy in this fourth and final season.

Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 1 saw Villanelle attempting to turn to God, Eve stuck on a path of revenge, and Carolyn struggling to get back into the game. Although the hour occasionally dragged, the premiere brought back all of our favorite characters and set them up for a thrilling final season. Villanelle has always been troubled and that's nice , and seeing her turn to religion seems like an odd choice. She claimed that it's under the guise of trying to better herself, but later it's proved only to try and impress Eve. Still, it did become a valiant effort from Villanelle, and the very last minutes may have her legitimately turning to God. Eve has been through the wringer these past three seasons.
