Imperials or stormcloaks

The question of whether one should join the Imperials or the Stormcloaks is something Skyrim players have been wrangling with ever since its release more than a decade ago. The Imperials are, imperials or stormcloaks, of course, the faction that was nearly responsible for the player's execution.

Skyrim's not in good shape when the Dragonborn arrives on the scene. Bandits pillage the countryside, and dragons are awakening and terrorizing every hold from Windhelm to Solitude. And, naturally, political turmoil has enveloped the realm. They have Jarls competing for power, the Altmer plotting behind the scenes, and most importantly, the Stormcloaks threaten to secede Skyrim from what they view as a crumbling empire. After all, Skyrim belongs to the Nords! Not the dragons, not the Imperials, and most certainly not the uppity High Elves.

Hey guys, just a question that I can't decide, now I understand I can just use the search bar to find this, but every single topic turns into a rant about who is better for the world lore-wise. With the stormcloaks, your only option is light armor if you choose to wear the equipment they give you. A shrine to Talos is also put in the Temple of Divines in Solitude once you win. The imperials have more variety in armor choices, but you miss out on the Shrine of Talos in Solitude. Other than that, there are really no differences. You get the same weapons.

Even Delphine, who is a Breton, says 'Talos guide you' to us at one point. Been a while since I played Imperials or stormcloaks so I don't recall what weapons we are supposed to get that are better than Imperials.

On the surface it is easy to see the Imperials as being the "evil" side, chopping heads left and right and signing the White-Gold Concordat that prohibits the worship of Talos. In my current game that I've recently started I've decided to give it a bit more thought, looking at the pros and cons of both sides. Here is where I'm at so far:.

Starting The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim drops you straight to your character getting carried to their execution on a carriage. You got caught by the Imperials illegally crossing the border, and sitting next to you is Jarl Ulfric, the leader of the Stormcloacks captured in the same ambush. The influence of this conflict throughout the game goes beyond the main quest line and has significant connotations for the control of each Hold. The Stormcloacks offer better armor and weapons for a Light Armor character, whereas the Imperials are more suitable for Heavy Armor characters. The Empire wants to keep Skyrim as part of their domain to honor the White-Gold Concordat and avoid another war against the Aldmeri Dominion. Stormcloaks want to defend their customs, and a central part of their culture is accepting Talos as their god. Siding with the Stormcloaks implies that you believe Talos is a legitimate god and that Nord culture deserves respect and should get defended from foreign influence. Siding with the Imperial Legion in Skyrim will mean that you support the idea of keeping Skyrim and the Empire united to deter the Aldmeri Dominion from trying to go to war again.

But I have noted the 'racism' in Windhelm goes both ways. Pseron Wyrd Like Loading Skyrim begins with players getting caught in an Imperial ambush alongside Stormcloak soldiers, and various NPCs will attempt to persuade the Dragonborn into joining one faction or the other. I believe the general consensus is that Imperials give you better armor while Stormcloaks give you better weapons. More of my characters sided with the Imperials than the Stormcloaks. You also get access to Tullius's armor if you join the Stormcloaks and Ulfric's clothes if you join the imperials. They also bring in a healthy amount of trade and commerce.

What do you guys think and which side do take as part of the Civil War? There are several moments throughout Skyrim when the question of whether to choose Stormcloak or Imperial is much easier to make — because the player's head, or the head of an innocent person, is on the chopping block. But as far as proud outward anti-Aldmeri stances go, the Stormcloaks win this round. In their war for the rights and freedoms of their people. Both sides need to come together and the racism would end. Unlike Hammerfell, Skyrim is far less accessible to the Somerset Isles and its likely the Aldmeri Dominion is still too weak to resume hostilities.
