This poor little half-caster class has been the butt of many jokes, and is widely looked at as a poor performer among its martial alternatives. At 2nd through 4th level, most ranged rangers will be getting basically a bonus d6 on every attack you hit. Its cast and move cost being just a bonus action means it's incredibly easy to keep it up and on targets.
Then the additional rider on it is less impactful than the hex. Depending on how your table runs, this difference between the spells may be noticeable. What's the problem with Hunter's Mark?

Unlike the Ranger, the Oath of Vengeance Paladin can only use this spell at level 3 when it becomes available to them. Pairing this with your longbow can deal some solid damage from range. The duration is mostly a waste in my eyes because locking concentration up for the possibly of a tiny amount of extra damage between encounters that may not even fall in that time frame is a waste.
