Hjaalmarch
Hjaalmarch is one of the nine Holds of Skyrim. Its capital is Hjaalmarch. It is one of the smallest Holds, hjaalmarch. The Hjaal River runs through a large portion of this Hold.
When creating Skyrim's province for the first time, developers wanted to ensure that each of the nine holds would represent a unique terrain and biome, which would bring some much-needed variety into an open-world game. Among all the holds, Hjaalmarch is definitely not the prettiest, as it sits on top of a large stretch of creepy, foggy wetlands. Despite being hard to traverse, Hjaalmarch and its capital Morthal are more than worthy of a visit. Filled with ghosts and other creepy details and locations, it's an ideal spot for finding cool hidden locations that players wouldn't otherwise be able to find with the help of markers. Just southeast of Morthal's small town, this hidden old burial ground holds a gruesome secret and something powerful within.

How is it that mighty gods die, yet the Daedra stand incorruptible? How is it that the Daedra forthrightly proclaim themselves to man, while the gods cower behind statues and the faithless words of traitor-priests? My guide to the reclusive kingdom of Western Skyrim continues, with a look at the region's easternmost hold. The Drajkmyr, an immense saltwater marsh formed by the estuaries of the River Karth and River Hjaal, dominate the region. This largely uninhabited marshland, frequently shrouded in an eerie mist, features a proliferation of the sinisterly reputed Deathbell flower. Though exploring the wetlands can be difficult, earnest travelers can find much to discover and enjoy in the hold. Morthal, a lumber town in the southeast of the Drajkmyr, serves as the jarl's seat of power in the hold. The houses are built on pylons by necessity, and connected by docks to provide safe passage over the mire. Structures here are a prime example of Nordic rough-hewn architecture. The people of Morthal can be gracious hosts, if unaccustomed to travelers given the arduous routes to and from the town. Many make their living from the saltmarsh, fishing and trapping creatures for meat and hide. In warmer seasons, timber is sent to Solitude's docks on pole-driven barges. Morthal is considered an essential destination due to its neighboring barrow, one of the few still safe for unarmed travelers to explore. The ice shelves abutting the Sea of Ghosts are a popular spot for explorers and travelers, though they require proper outfitting to traverse safely. The ice has trapped numerous ships and vessels across the ages, and many of these wrecks offer collectors and hobbyists an opportunity to uncover trinkets or souvenirs from a bygone age.
Though exploring the wetlands can be difficult, earnest travelers can find much to discover and enjoy in the hold, hjaalmarch. The snowy areas have few usable plants besides the humble snowberry bushbut there are some blue and purple mountain flowers to be found, hjaalmarch, with hjaalmarch blue variant especially abundant around Morthal, hjaalmarch. The Jarl is among the most relaxed hjaalmarch Skyrim when it comes to taxation, but Hjaalmarch is also the poorest of the nine holds.
In this quest, the Dragonborn can gain the title of Thane of Hjaalmarch. To become the Thane of Hjaalmarch, the Dragonborn must begin the quest " Laid to Rest " by investigating the burned down house, as well as completing the subsequent quests. The Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone by default, or Sorli the Builder if the Dragonborn has sided with the Stormcloaks during the Civil War will then offer the title of Thane as long as the Dragonborn undertakes miscellaneous quests to help three different people. The title also includes being awarded the Blade of Hjaalmarch. Similar to Falkreath , if this is attempted late in the game, it may be difficult to find three citizens alive to help, especially if the The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard add-on is installed. Hjaalmarch is a hold in northern Skyrim , with its capital in Morthal. It is initially affiliated with the Empire , though the Jarl laments the war and reportedly co-operates with the Empire only as far as their goals align. Despite its position just east of the capital of Skyrim, Solitude , Hjaalmarch is remote and isolated. The enormous, festering swamp dominating the northern part of the hold could be a factor, as could be the tall, snowy mountains in the south, and the ancient, cursed city of Labyrinthian blocking a possible trade route to Whiterun Hold. Hjaalmarch is one of the poorest holds in Skyrim, second only to Winterhold , and is sustained by the Morthal lumber mill and the mining town of Stonehills. Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone takes a hands-off approach to leadership; her people are unhappy with her governance and several will complain openly. Hjaalmarch is well-known for the salt marshes which dominate the north and central areas of the hold, stretching from Fort Snowhawk in the west to Ustengrav in the east, formed by the River Hjaal breaking into many tiny streams. Much of the rest of the hold more resembles neighboring holds, for example, in the south and east of the hold, the terrain is more resemblant of the Pale along the border with that hold - snowy pine forest and plains broken up by crags around the Stormcloak camp and Ustengrav. The southern half is mountainous terrain above the snow line, although in the west, the mountains give way to the Hjaal river valley, where the climate is more resemblant of neighboring Whiterun Hold.

Liberate each of Skyrim's Holds depending upon your choices during Season Unending :. This quest governs the overall progress of the Civil War for the Stormcloaks. It is completed by doing a series of other quests that are assigned to you as the Liberation of Skyrim progresses. The overall goal of the quest is to conquer each hold of Skyrim, one at a time, by taking control of the military fort for each hold. The holds to be conquered are altered by negotiations during Season Unending , and therefore there are many possible ways to complete this quest. One final complication is that when you complete the quest Dragonslayer during the Main Quest , any hold other than Haafingar that you have previously been tasked with liberating is immediately transferred to Stormcloak control. All remaining quests for that hold are skipped, and you need to return to Windhelm to receive the next assignment from Ulfric. In order to receive the next hold that needs to be liberated, you always start by talking to Ulfric at the Palace of the Kings in Windhelm. He will then tell you which hold needs to be conquered next, along with some explanation for why that hold is the next priority. The next step is to travel to the Stormcloak Camp located in the targeted hold.
