Visiting the beaches in Positano and along the Amalfi Coast is one of the best Positano things to do. I started visiting Positano way back in It was mid July, and the weather that year was abnormally hot. When we first arrived at Dimora del Podesta , Elia, one of the brothers who runs it and has since become a friend of mine, asked us our Positano itinerary. We were on a month long trip visiting more cities and towns than I can remember, so our plans were more or less to play it by ear.

This was not my first trip to the Amalfi coast. Last year Domenico and I managed a weekend at a completely over-the-top fabulous house he had worked on in Ravello. This was definitely the upscale, jet set image I had of this part of the world. But still…no beach. So this time, as I headed to Positano, I knew beaching it was my first priority. And she promised to lead us to some of her favorite spots. Getting there: not so easy. We took the fast train to Naples and then hired a car and driver to take us down the coast.
