Peter Ash shared that he is back on set filming his last scenes as Paul Foreman as the character's journey on the soap comes to a close.
Viewers initially saw Paul starting to struggle with his grip. He began dropping glasses, was seen mis-throwing darts in the pub and was sent home from work after experiencing difficulty handling his tools. His symptoms were initially blamed on a car accident but he was eventually referred to a neurologist for tests. Paul has since experienced many changes and challenges as a result of his MND, including managing difficulties with his mobility, worries about finances, using new equipment, banking his voice and making memories with loved ones. Motor neurone disease MND affects the nerves known as motor neurones. These nerves are found in the brain and spinal cord and they help tell your muscles what to do.

It was recently announced that cast member Peter Ash would be leaving the cobbles as part of an issue-based story that explores the life-shortening condition known as Motor Neurone Disease. The powerful storyline took the forefront in Wednesday's April 5 hour when Paul found some work at The Bistro as a kitchen porter now that he's no longer working for the Baileys. Paul later attended his medical assessment , where he received news from the neurologist that he'd need to be referred to a specialist to confirm a possible MND diagnosis. The neurologist explained that the systems Paul has experienced fall in line with those for MND, a condition for which there is no cure. Paul was in shock as he was told that if the diagnosis is confirmed, he would experience a "gradual but increased" loss of muscular coordination and, in the later stages, the inability to breathe unassisted. The doctor initially resisted telling Paul how long he had left because they still needed to confirm the diagnosis. However, she finally relented when Paul said he'd just search for it online anyway.
