Ayano Aishi , also known by her alias, Yandere-chan , is a student attending Akademi, as well as the protagonist and antagonist of Yandere Simulator. Ayano Aishi is the protagonist of Yandere Simulator. She is known as "Yandere-chan", and is unable to experience satisfaction, fulfillment, or happiness, and has not been able to experience emotions in the same capacity as other people. As she grew older, she learned to pretend to be a normal person in order to avoid drawing negative attention from others but was never able to feel any degree of empathy towards other human beings. On the first day of her second year of attending Akademi, Ayano came into physical contact with Taro Yamada, or "Senpai".

She reveals that her mother, Ryoba Aishi , also felt this way until she met Jokichi Yudasei , who awakened feelings in her. Ryoba related this to Ayano, impressing on her that same experience would happen to her as well. Ayano states that she has spent her life dreaming about this moment, waiting for the love that will "cure", "fix", and "save" her. The moment of when Ayano encountered her Senpai, Taro Yamada , it is shown where that he brought color, emotions, and hope to her life, thus ending her grey and emotionless life. Ayano is initially ecstatic until the appearance of Osana Najimi , a rival , which sends her into a rage.

Ayano Aishi, also known as Yandere-chan, is the protagonist and the main character of Yandere Simulator. Ayano is an eliminating type of Yandere, as she attempts to remove all of her Senpai's romantic interests aka "Rivals" through any means necessary, which mainly consists in killing them, her appearance in the game "Crush Crush" shows her trying to dispose of her rivals by means different than murder such as; framing a rival for a crime, getting her expelled, manipulating her into dating a different person than senpai, etc. At the beginining of the game it is shown that Ayano has a shrine dedicated to her Senpai which contains a number of personal items of him, including underwear, chewing gum, and stationary used by him. As a student, Ayano wears the stereotypical seifuku seen in most anime and manga, although there are a couple of additional options of uniform styles depending on how far into the game you are, Maid and Deliqunet being two other options. Since early childhood, Ayano has suffered from an inexplicable, incurable condition. In short, this condition leaves her with a perpetual sense of being empty, hollow, and incomplete.

One day, she encounters an upperclassman named Taro or Taeko if selected as female who sparks an emotion in her. Her mother is Ryoba Aishi , another yandere who has also gone to great lengths to win her Senpai's heart, as well as her grandmother. They come from a long line of Yanderes that starts before time is recorded,. Althoughshe's emotionless, only near her senpai she does she feel like a normal person. Without him, she is free to eliminate whichever student that interferes between the relationship with Senpai and herself. While Ayano's personality is dependent on the player, a few independent traits remain.
