Astroberry strictly speaking Astroberry Server is a fantastic operating system for the Raspberry Pi that allows control of your astromony kit and even better it's free! However, while there is a lot of useful information on SGL and elsewhere on the web, I had some trouble understanding how to set everything up and I couldn't find a beginners step-by-step guide. I don't have much experience of the RPi or Linux or indeed any operating systems other than windows but after some trial and error I've got things working so I thought it might be useful to chronical the steps that hopefully will get you up and running. Astroberry is also really flexible and there are multiple ways to do most things so what follows is just ONE way to get you up and running. So let's get started. When I say 'computer' I mean your main computer and I use RPi when referring to the Raspberry Pi that's a computer too, of course, but just to differentiate between the two. Insert your SD card into the SD card slot on your computer, select this card from the 'Select target' button on balenaEtcher and then select 'Flash! The process takes a little while but will show progress as the file is copied and then verified. Make sure the flashing process has completely finished before removing the SD card from your computer. To do that, insert the newly flashed SD card into your RPi and power it on.

This astroberry actually starts the profile astroberry selected devices and allows to connect to it locally from KStars or remotely from your PC, including connection over the Internet from distant locations. Unzip this file into a folder on your computer. On the left of the screen is a blue-grey tab that will expand to show some buttons, astroberry.

Astroberry is ready to use system for Raspberry Pi for controlling all your astronomy equipment. You can remotely control your telescope, focuser, camera and much more! All of these with just a small and portable single board computer. Take a sit at your desk and manage your equipment located in the backyard or hundreds kilometers away. You can fully control how it works and customize virtually each and every part of the system, so it fits your needs.

I set up and tested my Raspberry Pi with Astroberry a few days ago. This is not really necessary, more something I wanted to tinker with. Eventually it will also get some kind of case. For now, just going to get it working. It took a minute or so for the LED to go from solid red to blinking red. Restarted gpsd and ran gpsmon to make sure I was receiving GPS information from the module. This was not working after disabling the virtualgps. I restarted gpspanel. The Astroberry GPS panel also shows you some other interesting information like what GPS satellites you are receiving data from, a sky map of where they the satellites are in the sky, and what the signal strength from each satellite is.

It grabs raw data from GPS device and provides it to whole operating system and applications that need this information. All your data on microSD card will be overwritten during reflashing microSD card. Then select 'Astroberry HotSpot' from the list, click on the cog icon in the bottom left of the Network Connections window again this time to edit the settings for Astroberry HotSpot. Especially if you connect your system to the Internet and expose SSH service to public. If you can't have Raspberry Pi always connected to a network with access to the Internet you need to use other options. Ah - that makes sense. Reload to refresh your session. If you just copy downloaded file to your microSD card it's not going to work. Great first user guide , couple of points maybe 1. My previous imaging computer platform was built using the free and open source version of Astroberry. The software is well maintained and consistently being updated with new features and bug fixes.

It runs on single board computer and is powered by Linux operating system. How to upgrade? You can remotely control your telescope, focuser, camera and much more! If you decide to reflash your microSD card, make sure to backup your data first. The 8Gb version doesn't currently gain you much as astroberry is bit, so any single process on the Pi is limited to a 4Gb addressing range. The highest resolution cameras benefit from something better than a Pi.
