The Yamaha XJ was a motorcycle manufactured by Yamaha in and was marketed as a sporty machine. It was suitable for everyday use, so it gained a reputation as a reliable touring motorcycle. In , the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer launched the Yamaha Xj , a motorcycle made in two versions: Maxim for the American market and Seca for the European market, with several differences. In the visual department, the bike was equipped with standard features, such as a large, round headlight with two instrument gauges mounted on top, a one-piece dual seat, a dual exhaust system with a silencer on each side, and five double-spoke lightweight wheels. The Yamaha XJ had installed a cc four-stroke air-cooled four-cylinder engine underneath its fuel tank, fed by four Hitachi carburetors, delivering an output power of 71 hp at 9, rpm and 57 Nm 42 lb-ft torque at 7, rpm. A five-speed manual transmission fitted with a wet multi-plate clutch handled the bike's power and sent it to the rear wheel through a low-maintenance final shaft drive.

Hi everyone, new to the forum and to riding. Just passed the MSF course about a month ago and been on the hunt for my first bike ever since. I was wondering if ya'll could give me some advice on the following for my first bike. Thinking about getting it but it will need some work. Also, its missing 2 exhaust bolts, where the pipes connect to the engine, 1 of which is broken off in the block and will need to be drilled out.

Make Yamaha. Model XJ Selling my Yamaha XJ in good condition. It runs well, but takes about minutes to idle correctly while on choke. This can be solved by a good carb cleaning I'm sure.

It's too bad the Maxim was obscured when manufacturers blanketed the market with cruisers. Other companies have produced bodacious knock-offs of the Maxim, imitations that suffer from excess "If they like slightly stepped seats, we'll give 'em real split-level housing". The engine employed a one-piece crankshaft with plain bearings and placed the alternator and starter behind the engine to minimize width. The Maxim had shaft drive. Owner sent me this today.. The Maxim had another amazing feature for a motorcycle touted as a high-performance piece: shaft drive. Not bad bikes, but not awesome as learner bikes. Yeah I was thinking the same thing on the front tire. If you do buy the bike,I will donate a couple exhaust studs to you and cover shipping if you are in one of the lower 48 states.
