What coolant to top up with. Thread Tools. Likes: 3. Received 21 Likes on 14 Posts. I was going to have it changed out completely, but the tech didn't recommend doing that, saying it was costly because the system had to be completely flushed. He suggested waiting till it needed hoses replaced or something. So, in the meanwhile what should I top it up with?

The water cooling circuit in the car is of central importance for the function of the vehicle, so that the coolant plays a central role alongside the other operating fluids such as engine oil, brake fluid, etc. The fluid that performs the function of heat transport and at the same time protects against corrosion and frost in your vehicle's cooling circuit is correctly called coolant. The answer is yes. It is simpler than you might think. While coolant is called the finished liquid that works in the cooling circuit, coolant in the true sense of the word is the component of the coolant that adds the important functions of protection against freezing , rust and boiling to conventional water. A mixture of antifreeze and water thus produces the finished coolant. Antifreeze is offered either as a concentrate - these are used exactly as just explained - and as a finished mixture " Ready Mix ", " Premix " or " ready to use ". These are coolants that are ready to be filled directly into the radiator and do not need to be mixed with water. As a rule of thumb, coolants are often distinguished by their color and selected for use. This procedure does not always lead to the wrong result, but it is not technically correct and may well lead to you choosing the wrong antifreeze for your vehicle. The consequences of the wrong antifreeze in the cooling circuit of your car are difficult to estimate, but can be negative or even fatal. Since antifreeze of different specifications differ in their chemical composition and mixing different combinations can lead to unwanted reactions of the fluids, you should follow a systematic and correct procedure when choosing your antifreeze.
We have proved over and over that it holds almost exactly 7 gallons.

Sorry if this has been asked before. Will be doing a 10yr coolant change soon and want to know if I need 6 litres of the above, or 3 litres plus water. When the cooling system of the 1. The rest of the coolant will stay in the system. Also be aware that the cooling system needs to be vacuum filled. Without vacuum filling large amounts of air can be trapped inside the cooling system. Without the possibility to manually bleed the system bleed valves these amounts of air can easily result in engine damage. Thanks for the info. Any tips for a proper drain and re-fill? Without the appropriate equipment to force the coolant into the system under vacuum, you can't renew the coolant.

I will replace my coolant after a coolant pump change this summer. Just topped it up with water didn't plan to loose so much coolant and now want to change it completly. Didn't want to mix different vendors.
Layladeline leaked
In addition, the ATO24 team offers free expert advice if you are not sure which coolant to use. And because of that, I would not run any coolant unless it says right on the bottle that it meets Fords specs. I used to have to photograph all cavitation failures of the pre-Powerstrokes which were very common , and send them to International. We drained over a quart out. Ran perfect until the coolant leak. Anyone here think that this wouldn't have happened if he would have run Ford coolants and tested SCAs? TSB's are permanent documents issued by engineering. If it's my car, I would do a complete flush - complete flush and back flush. Originally Posted by jagtoes. See photo below. Automatic Transmission Fluid. I just flushed my truck after replacing the water pump at K miles. The coolant proportion of the total capacity is 5 litres. Thanks in advance.
It outlines the performance and quality standards that engine oils must meet to be used in Ford vehicles, ensuring proper lubrication and protection for the engine.
He sells it, too. Certainly a flush is cheaper than that, no? I get it directly from Ford engineers - in this case, cooling system engineers. Sign up. Any Ford tech that bothers to look at the latest list of TSBs knows that. And the engineers are well aware of the over-sights and problems with the catalog's chart. Actually it doesn't matter to me, all I know is I'm done with coolant for the rest of this motors life. There are coolant products superior in cavitation prevention than the generic coolant and SCA ford recommends. You can read much more about the topic coolant, for example an answer to the question how to mix coolant correctly and which water to use for this, in our ATO24 blog article about coolants. I would look for a place that could do a power flush which done correctly will both fill and remove any air in the system. Some standards are identical, others have no equivalent in the other system.
In my opinion you are not right. I am assured. Write to me in PM, we will discuss.
I consider, that you are mistaken. I can prove it.
