The Saturday after Thanksgiving, my father and I went out searching for good coffee and great White Sox. We found neither. As a Midwesterner, going to Cooperstown always seemed like a non-starter. It takes deliberate planning to get there, and rather than fret over the logistics of a trip to the middle of nowhere, I figured that happenstance would guide me there someday. Last year the fates made it easier, as my parents relocated from the suburbs of Detroit to Ithaca, New York. Our family moved a dozen times before I finished high school and with every relocation my father would bribe us in the process, reminding us that if we moved we would have the opportunity to check a new stadium and home team off our list. We said goodbye to Riverfront and gained the Mudhens. Packed our boxes and saw games at Fulton County Stadium. Bought new mattresses and ate hotdogs at Milwaukee County Stadium. Watched minor league games in Louisville, then registered at a new school before visiting Jacobs Field. We left the house early in the morning.
