I have read the Wheel of Time in its entirety, three times now, and have read a good number of books in the series as many as five times. It is quite the undertaking, and a younger me would be very surprised at my repeated return to these novels. That said, I think the world building and character work in the Wheel of Time is some of the best in any fantasy series ever. Returning to the series every few years is comforting, like wrapping yourself in a favorite blanket or sweater. Still it is made up of books, most of them very good, but no series this long is going to be perfect.

It is quite a commitment to read these books, with thousands of pages to read and many characters to keep track of, with it taking me almost a year to complete the entire series. This was time well spent, in my opinion, because The Wheel of Time is now among my favourite novel series of all time. Therefore, I decided to rank all of the books from the weakest to the best. Keep in mind, though, that this is solely based off my first read through of the series, so my opinion could change after a second read through. No surprise, the book that most fans seem to agree is the weakest book of the series is the one that I rank right at the bottom. Honestly, before this point, I had actually been enjoying the books of the so-called slog. Unfortunately, this was not the case for Crossroads of Twilight for me, as I can firmly state it is the only book in the series that I did not like. One of the biggest reasons for this is that it feels like almost nothing happens in this book. Worst of all are the Elayne chapters. My god, were her chapters difficult to get through.

Still it is made up of books, most of them very good, but no series this long is going to be perfect. By raolan January 8, in Wheel of Time Books. I could just be blind but I've not seen any free discussion topic on favourite characters. Most just seem to be polls on a select few. So, since The Wheel of Time has enough named characters to fill a small city, I figure it may as well be your top ten. Or as many as you want, really. Moiraine for being one of few characters who is focused entirely on the Last Battle. Even when it seemed like she was manipulating, everything she did leaned towards winning TG.

A Memory of Light: I recognize the criticism. But, at the same time, the book forces some compromises to try to make too many people happy. I like discussing them with others and getting my opinion of them out there for others, no matter how small the audience. LoC 4. EotW 3. New Spring is the prequel novel to The Wheel of Time series, telling the story of Moiraine Damodred's early quests to find the Dragon Reborn and the tale of how she and Lan Mandragoran came to be bonded as Aes Sedai and warder. Speaking of, one thing I knew coming into Towers of Midnight was that there would be a chapter focusing on a trial that not a lot of readers liked. TGH 5. The Fires of Heaven is a book that I find to be fairly underrated in the series. Martin characterization — The Wheel of Time retains a very special place among book lovers, particularly those who like to take their literature with a bit of sword and sorcery sprinkled in for good measure. Good story, Rand laying the smack down, but Egwene was jarring. Lord of Chaos 7. No, in my opinion, that title is shared between Mat and Moiraine.
