You may start in a boom and zoom surprise attack, all good and well but eventually it will end up with someone in a horizontal turn fight or a vertical up and down fight. My question is about the combat flaps! For a horizontal turn fight, when and how much do you use your flaps? Watched a great dogfighting video from Phil Styles who was swatting down AI left and right. Waggs himself had commented a month before on this video on the P's wobbling nose while heavy elevator use and if he is watching Phil's video then I take Phil's methods as valid!! Plenty of DCS pilots use unrealistic tactics.

Aerial combat is a 3-dimensional art with many intricacies that take years to master. Studying these tactics seriously by reading up on, practicing, and using these principles to your advantage will greatly increase your effectiveness in a dogfight. Unlike more realistic games such as dcs world and il2 shurtomikov, warthunder does not use cockpit view and has limted game modes on air realistic battles. You should always fly with the Rules of Air Fighting in mind, but like any set of rules, they are meant to be bent to suit the situation at hand. As with any other game or combat, it is better to bring friends. Wing tactics are covered in its own article. The goal of this tactic is to maintain a constant energy advantage over your opponents and making yourself as difficult to engage as possible. This is done by engaging a bogey at a significant altitude advantage, diving on your opponent booming , and then, after firing, climbing away to a safe altitude zooming. It is important to note that altitude alone is not enough, there needs to be a distinct energy advantage or the bogey can simply follow into the zoom climb and counter-attack, which is what an energy fighter may try to do against a boom and zoomer by hiding his energy state. Energy fighting principles can also be incorporated into the boom and zoom, by modifying the attacks in such a way so as to prevent the enemy from gaining energy. The loose deuce can be seen as a tactic using boom and zoom with energy fighting principles. Energy fighting is an art in which you try to maintain or gain an energy advantage over your enemy, then use this energy advantage and consequent maneuverability to dominate your opponent.

I try to learn to fly and taking off and landing and staying in the air, etc and looking at some YT vid's by players into combat i see they are using flaps during flight and combat maneuvering. Flaps in combat were used historically, but very rarely, and nowhere near the extent we see the AI use it in SP and some players in MP particularly on the Yaks. I personally never use flaps in combat for the simple reason that it drains a lot of your energy in both maneuvers and level flight, which is really not something you need during combat. I use them in the at the top of loops if I am in danger of stalling. As soon as my nose points back down they go right back up though.

The Block 50 also received the Westinghouse APG radar which was much faster and generally more reliable. The improved General Electric F greatly increases the performance of the Block 50 against enemy aircraft. It excels in dogfighting thanks to its relatively light airframe and better engine. Players should be more than satisfied with the FC Block 50 against both aircraft and ground targets. When the plane is heavy full fuel load, lots of ordnance , its maneuverability isn't amazing, but it isn't bad. However, when the plane is light low fuel and most of the ordnance is depleted , it is much more manoeuvrable and is one of the best dogfighters in the game.
