Attention Wyndham Residents! Starting from March 8th, get ready for some significant changes on the West Gate Freeway, as it undergoes a major transformation to improve your travel experience. The freeway will be split into two separate carriageways in both directions, meaning a little extra attention will be required to navigate your usual routes. Remember, signs are your best friends on the road, guiding you to your desired exits and ensuring a smooth journey. So that work can be completed as quickly and safely as possible and with minimal impact to road users, most of these activities will take place overnight and require road, ramp, and lane closures. Residents in these areas may experience noise disruptions but this should only be minor as these works will be completed within noise walls. The freeway is split into two carriageways in each direction with direct through lanes, and lanes for freeway exits. All outbound lanes between Millers Road and the M80 interchange will take you to Ballarat and Geelong. Drivers can take any lane to exit at Williamstown Road but the left lanes will be an easier journey. Whether you are travelling from the M80 or Princes Freeway, all inbound lanes will take drivers to the West Gate Bridge. Make sure you follow the permanent green overhead signs on the lanes you are travelling - choose your lane early and avoid last minute lane changes. There will also be electronic signage and directional arrow markings to guide you on your approach. Some lanes will need to be connected into the twin tunnels, which will in turn be linked to the new bridge across the Maribyrnong River, the elevated road above Footscray Rd and the new city connections.
