The show followed the story of a college football team, the Blue Mountain State Goats, and their antics on and off the field. The main character of the show is Alex Moran, played by Darin Brooks. Alex is a second-string quarterback and a party animal who is more interested in having fun than playing football. His best friend and roommate, Sammy Cacciatore, played by Chris Romano, is a backup linebacker who is equally as wild and carefree as Alex. He struggles to keep the team in line and often finds himself in sticky situations due to their antics. Throughout the series, viewers get to see the Goats compete on the field and face challenges off the field. The show portrays the harsh and intense reality of college football and how it affects the personal lives of the players. The Tigers are seen as the elite football team, and the Goats are determined to take them down.

After a streak of bad luck, the team holds a "Lock-In Party" at the Goat House to build team camaraderie at which Alex and Thad divide the rest of the players into two groups and compete in a drug-fueled Team Building Olympics.
