The Viera is a leporine race of people commonly found in Southern Othard. While the majority of their population resides closed-off from the rest of the world in the Golmore Jungle , in recent times more have decided to leave the safety of the forest to explore the world. The Viera in Golmore Jungle live under a strict code, the "Green Word" also known as the Word of the Wood , [1] that forbid them from interacting with the outside world unless strictly necessary. In the alternate world the First , the Viera are known as "Viis" and live in the Rak'tika Greatwood as caretakers for the ruins of lost empire of Ronka. Even though male Viera are the main guardians of the jungle, the martial prowess of female Viera is not to be underestimated as they are just as formidable as the men, merely choosing to devote their attention to the protection of their hearth and young. The word "Viera" itself means "people of the wood" and a Viera child is referred to as a "kit". Like the Keepers of the Moon , Viera tribes are a matriarchal society that is ruled by, and mostly comprised of, women. Viera men are rare and remain deeply solitary, except when they return to their village of birth every three to five years to mate.

Viera of the Rava clan live primarily in the Golmore Jungle, their umber skin allowing them to readily blend in with their surroundings. Though the males stand as wards of the forest, the females are adept hunters in their own right, fiercely guarding their homes and their young.
Before the release, these races were teased, but no one was told how to unlock the Hrothgar and the Viera in the new Final Fantasy XIV expansion. Would you need to reach some point in the new story to get them? Do you need to beat the story to unlock them? Will they be unlocked for my account or can I only change a character that has gone far enough into the story into one? Simply owning the expansion will allow you to select them as a race. Even when making a new character you can choose them for the race. On release, the races were also gender locked but both male and female variants should be available for both races.

The game's producer, Naoki Yoshida, has mentioned that Viera cannot wear most headpieces visibly due to issues with clipping, but that doesn't mean there aren't some existing pieces that will work well and look fantastic on any Viera hopping around your favorite city state.
