Back at the Tour de France, Cyclist visited the race to see how official timekeeper Tissot went about timing the biggest cycling race on the calendar and ensuring an accurate result, tissot timing.

Cycling Track is made up of a wide range of disciplines whose variety makes the sport one of the most complex to time. Specific timing methods used depend on the event. Active sensors are integrated over the entire width of the start, finish, and pursuit lines. Signals are sent to the timing system by these sensors each time a wheel passes over one of the lines. Keirin, sprint, points race and Madison events, on the other hand, use photofinish technology to indisputably establish the finishing order. This technology is also used to verify points allocation in Madison and points races. The rider is held at the start line with a gate that uses brake pads similar to those found on a street bicycle.

The closest I've ever been to being on a sailboat, yacht, or even rowing a boat is at my local gym using a row machine to burn off all of my excess fast food calories from throughout the week. So, if I'm not a boat person, why would I even like a watch with a regatta timer that's specifically meant to time the start of said boating activities? Well, if they're as fun and colorful as the Tissot Sideral, then, why not? The new Sideral I handled is actually a modern iteration of Tissot's original Sideral S, which was a follow-up to its Sideral. The originals were made of fiberglass with colorful cases, but these new versions are cased in carbon and stainless steel. The case is mainly black in our modern versions, but you'll find more color in these dials than in the originals. The overall look is quite niche, but I think a lot of people can easily get behind a splash of color in the watch world. Speaking of colors, the Sideral comes in three different color variations red, blue and yellow , and they're all equipped with integrated rubber straps that match the colors on the dial. I think all three are well suited for these blistering hot summer months. Even if you're not into the Sideral's aquatic background, the loud colors are downright fun to wear. I can see myself rocking one of these to the cookout or pool parties, but if you want to wear them daily, by all means give it a go. I'm not judging.
