The trip to the restaurant requires driving off road through an almost desert landscape, down into a gorge on a U-shaped road barely wide enough to hold two cars and then up a hill along a sand stone cliff, all of which is either incredibly terrifying or thrilling. All along the way the sea is visible; its bright turquoise waters shimmering in the afternoon sunlight. The Last Castle ruins are perched on top of a hill, overlooking a deep gorge and the sea. Once atop the hill the large open space leading to the restaurant is divided into an organic garden supplying the restaurant with its fresh ingredients, and a parking lot. Until this point the restaurant seems a mystery. A walkway with relics from the castle, potted plants, partially ruined walls and funky cactus leads you to the restaurant. As the walkway ends the beautiful restaurant opens up before you, drawing your eye to the amazing turquoise sea. Then, you look up to the beautiful grapevines, full of luscious green grapes, which serves as the only roof for the restaurant. The large open space has no walls, except for the one ruined one remaining from the castle. The tables are made from massive stone slabs with a mixture of chairs.

We visited there recently to sample the Souvla To get to Last Castle, or Viklari as it is also known, you need to take the coast road from Paphos to Agios Georgios, and turn when you see the signpost for the Akamas. This road will take you past White River Beach before descending into a very large bay area.

Do you want to see a really cool place for lunch? Well known by all locals for great food and even better views, this secret hot spot is a short drive away in Akamas Peninsula. The vines provide a lovely shade and reflect like a disco ball a beautiful mosaic on the floor. When we were there, the grapes were just getting ripe and the vine provided nice shelter from the midday heat. We called a day earlier and booked a big table with a view — a must if you want to make it there for lunch in summer, this place gets really busy even on weekdays. This is no place for picky eaters — the restaurant only serves one menu and lunch only, you choose either chicken or pork or mixed. The food is good quality, I would say even better than you get in most restaurants in Paphos especially in the harbour area. The salad is rather simple but very fresh. Everyone is very friendly and this place is popular, so book ahead to avoid disappointment.

We booked our table for , and when we arrived the restaurant was nearly empty. It soon started filling up though, as the lunchtime crowd arrived. The "roof" of the main dining area consists of grape vines. At the moment they are ripe for harvest. If your a tourist you will love this, but to be honest, our house in Polemi is surrounded by vineyards and grapes are plentiful, so this was a bit of a busman's holiday for us. So, how did we find the food? My wife and daughter both liked the pork best, whereas I preferred the chicken. However, they were both delicious.
