Consumers who have a Swift series cooker in their caravan or motorhome are advised there is now a remedy for recalled models and should immediately arrange a free inspection of their cooker and possible repair. The ACCC is concerned about the risk of explosions and burns associated with 16 recalled models of the Swift series cooker. This update provides further details in relation to the scope of the appliances affected by the recall, and updated advice on the actions for owners of the Swift series cooker. The manufacturer has identified that on some cookers manufactured before 1 June , the gas pipe on the front left hotplate burner may break without warning. This can cause a significant gas leak that may ignite and explode. It is recommended that consumers with a cooker manufactured in this date range ensure that the front left burner control knob is in the off position and should remove the knob and store it out of reach of children and other users. Please note that cookers manufactured before 1 January are currently under investigation by the manufacturer and the scope of the recall may be adjusted once the investigation is complete. Consumers can use these gas cookers as normal following the instructions for use that were provided with the appliance. Grey Nomads and other caravans and recreational vehicles owners are advised to stop using all Swift series caravan gas cookers until further notice. This follows an incident in New South Wales where a Queensland-based caravan owner suffered severe burn injuries from using a series cooker while camping. Resources Safety and Health Queensland RSHQ has issued a safety notice which identified a failure point within the internal piping at a control valve connection point. This resulted in a gas leak which led to a subsequent explosion. RSHQ is currently working with other gas regulators and the manufacturer, Swift Appliance Group, to implement a national recall.
