While these paintings are a convenient way to revisit a previous level, they also take you to a secret area of a kingdom where you can pick up a new Power Moon. If you use them at all, you'll likely be using them during post game. It unlocks after beating the ice boss. It's available either as soon as you enter the level or after you beat the broodal.
