Final Fantasy 16 's story is centered around Dominants, individuals who can control the power of Eikons. Each Eikon represents a different element, strongest eikon, with the Dominants often holding some of the highest positions of power in the continent strongest eikon Valisthea.

Still, the skills accomplish their purpose, which is to get you used to the idea of building mixed combos and swapping your style on the fly. You can counter most attacks and unleash a strong attack if your timing is good, shatter enemies with a mighty punch, and launch everyone high, setting them up for aerial combos and a quick finish.

There are a total of eight dominants who are blessed with tremendous power from god-like beings called Eikons in Final Fantasy 16 's story: Odin, Titan, Shiva, Garuda, Bahamut, Ifrit, Ramuh, and Phoenix. Channeling these Eikons grants Clive a new tree of abilities and allows him to upgrade them so that they can be used in tandem with each tree. The right combination of abilities can provide a much smoother combo experience and create incredibly high damaging attacks that can melt bosses' and enemies' health bars into nothing. Benedikta is encountered, and summarily dispatched, pretty early on in the story. You have few slots to use, making it important to get the best abilities possible. Fill up the meter and you can unleash the Zantetsuken itself, a very powerful screen-clearing attack.
