Going Out Restaurants. A mighty mural depicting Anthony Bourdain looms beside the entrance to this pan-Asian restaurant that was previously RSJ, a haven back in the day for National Theatre -goers. Context and memory are definitely present in my second visit to Sticky Mango with my son Ben and Amy Gadney, the daughter of my late husband Reg. So is it a great meal? Well, yes actually. His return to Coin Street had resulted in Sticky Mango occupying the first floor. Now it pervades the whole premises. A shriek of delight greets the crammed white pillowy soft-shell crab steamed buns where tempura batter contributes added crunch and sriracha sauce extra punch to Asian slaw. Crispy buns almost steal the thunder from a half Singapore chilli lobster red as a post box. We consider twice-cooked glazed duck but decide instead on duck fried rice, a tower of song topped by a fried duck egg, its white rendered crunchy by garlic and ginger crumb. Devilment is in the detail in all the assemblies but magnificently so in desserts.

One of my favourite dishes was the black pepper prawns. Big, juicy and well-cooked. The chef brought us out a small taster between courses of one of their most popular dishes.

It was a lively atmosphere on a Tuesday evening, the restaurant appeared to be popular with group bookings as menus are designed for sharing, encouraging an exciting shared social experience. Chef Owner Peter Lloyd, popped by to wish us a lovely meal and shared he was delighted the London restaurant scene is finally back in full swing, thankfully resulting in fully booked evenings at the restaurant. After ordering a glass of house white wine, we begin small with promising golden parcels on small plates. The puff pastry was light and flaky, enveloped with a plaited crust far more sophisticated than a pasty at your local bakery giving way to the delicious filling, my guest had Malaysian chicken curry whilst mine was the veggie option, this was complemented really well by the accompanying coriander yoghurt dipping sauce which had a mild tang, I enjoyed the flavour combination whilst my guest found the sauce slightly overwhelming. The Thai green mango salad was light, fresh and crunchy, brimming with bean shoots, chopped mango and cashew nuts, it had a zingy candied ginger dressing that added moisture and offered balance to the other starters. Next up, the black pepper prawns with dehydrated pineapple and jicama are served in a sticky addictive sauce, with a hint of spice tying it all together. These were very moreish and our server advised eating both the prawn and pineapple together to get the most of the flavour — we were not disappointed.

The cod fish not well cooked, we could not experience the taste bomb unfortunately. It's the kind of restaurant you return to again and again and work your way through the menu. Food slightly under flavoured for my liking. Noisy table nearby was a downer in a small room! Deserts were also original. The chicken is tenderly cooked and the pickled red onion heightens the flavour of the dish overall.
