Rose Buds has the harder job, tying up several loose ends from the Zoo while pulling our attention back to Rose after so many episodes and a full movie that focused on Pink, but it faces these challenges with the sort of panache that Steven could only dream of. Kimberly Brooks only got a handful of episodes in Steven Universe to show off, but Future makes up for this by making her the go-to actor for all the new quartzes we meet. While their character designs carry plenty of weight in terms of characterization, Brooks imbues the Rose Buds with voices that perfectly fit their roles. Combined with his obsession with helping others, Steven digs himself into a sitcom-like rut of bringing the Rose Buds deeper and deeper into his life when all he wants to do is keep them away.
