Steering damper motorcycle
Steering damper motorcycle steering damper, or steering stabilizer is a damping device designed to inhibit an undesirable, uncontrolled movement or oscillation of a vehicle steering mechanism, a phenomenon known in motorcycling as wobble. Motorcycles with a short wheelbase and an aggressive steering geometry provides the ability to make very quick changes in direction, steering damper motorcycle. As a side-effect it the bike is less stable, gives less feedback from uneven road surfaces, and is more difficult to control.
Originally designed in by Leonard R Jordan Jr, [ citation needed ] the steering damper or steering stabiliser is a damping device designed to inhibit an undesirable, uncontrolled movement or oscillation of a vehicle steering mechanism, a phenomenon known in motorcycling as the death wobble. The stabilizer absorbs unwanted energy in the side to side motion allowing the forks and shocks to work properly. Many things can cause a motorcycle chassis to get upset such as slamming on brakes, rough road, and lastly improper setup. An upset chassis can be a great deal of danger for the rider often times resulting in a crash. A steering stabilizer slows those movements down resulting in the rider feeling more comfortable on the motorcycle. Sport bikes have a short wheelbase and an aggressive steering geometry to provide the ability to make very quick changes in direction. This has the harmful side-effect of making the bike less stable, more prone to feedback from uneven road surfaces, and more difficult to control.

Motorcycles with a short wheelbase and an aggressive steering geometry provides the ability to make very quick changes in direction. As a side-effect it the bike is less stable, gives less feedback from uneven road surfaces, and is more difficult to control. If the front wheel is not completely inline from the direction of travel when it touches down after a small wheelie, it may cause an unwanted wobble. Steering dampers are factory installed on more and more high-end motorcycles, not only sport, but also naked and big all-roads.

A steering damper, also known as a steering stabilizer, can help a motorcycle rider keep control on rough terrain. Those who ride on smooth roads may never need to install a steering damper, but it can be difficult for beginners to know if motorcycle steering dampers are worth it for them. Motorcycle steering dampers are worth it for those who ride on bumpy terrain. Dampers aid the rider in stabilizing the front wheel. They also prevent the front wheel from turning very fast after hitting a bump on a bad road, which can have disastrous effects. But how likely is something like that to happen, and just how necessary are steering dampers for rough terrain?

It gives the rider comfort in riding, and the assurance of not getting knocked off by the quick steering movements of the bike. The Electronics opens a check valve where the fluid will flow through a damper, vane and then another damper before leaving the system. Retrieved On motorcycles, one end of the damper is mounted to the steering yoke or triple tree , the other to the frame. Both steering damper types are made with the highest precision to guarantee the quality and functioning of the steering damper. They are mounted coaxially with the steering axis and are typically located on top of the triple tree top of fork leg. If a rider was to get an aftermarket ECM or have the stock one re flashed he would then be able to change it to what he likes. Tools Tools. All parts are developed, designed, manufactured and assembled in our own factory! This is to counter these undesirable behaviour.
But what does a steering damper do, and are they really worth it for your motorcycle?
Lower the weight the thinner it will be while the higher the oil is the thicker it will be. Hydraulically operated steering dampers may be retrofitted. The Electronics opens a check valve where the fluid will flow through a damper, vane and then another damper before leaving the system. While they do help with less fatigue they will not completely take it away. For motorcycles with sidecars, especially for motorcycles which have been retrofitted with a sidecar and where the front wheel geometry, or trail, has not been adjusted for use with a sidecar, a steering damper is beneficial. They also have ones that go through your steering stem what you can tighten down on your bearings which creates more restriction. These dampers are mostly used on sport bikes and have a wide range of adjustability depending on the person riding. One-piece piston rod — Perfect alignment through the slide bearings and no excessive force on the piston. Mounting kits. This one is unique of it's kind and is superior to other steering dampers. On motorcycles, one end of the damper is mounted to the steering yoke or triple tree , the other to the frame. If your bike is not in our application list, a wide range of clamps and brackets are available to mount onto the bike yourself. Triple function seals. In older motorcycles adjustable friction dampers had been routinely installed.
