The meta-narrative around Starfield just took a very weird turn. Starfield is an RPG with hundreds of hours of quests to complete and characters to meet. Try creating different characters with backgrounds and characteristics that clash or are oppositive of your previous character. You will feel like you are playing a totally different game. Starfield recently crossed that threshold in a rush of new sales ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. One surefire way to reverse negative reviews on Steam is to continue releasing big updates. While Starfield recently received DLSS support on PC and the ability to eat food directly from the environment which serves no purpose but is fun , the game could still use plenty of other tweaks and additions, and fellow travelers like Cyberpunk have proved it can be done.
Starfield is boring
Space is, as Star Trek has taught us, the final frontier. Humanity has conquered the heights, the depths, and wide expanse in between; however, the next step on our never-ending quest for discovery will be our finest hour. While scientific research has told us what to expect when we traverse the vast abyss of space, the truth is that we know very little about what's going on out there, and a lot of the stuff that we do know is theoretical. In many ways, it's a blank slate, especially for creators. I don't mean some celestial being or a divine presence, I'm talking about people who make movies, video games, or any other form of entertainment. Unfortunately, Starfield doesn't make the most of these endless possibilities. You can incorporate almost anything you want in space. Perhaps something based on the laws of physics we know, but realised in a way we've never imagined? Or how about a planet that defies the very definition of what we know as a planet? Instead, we often have to settle for the usual sandy desert planet. Starfield, Bethesda's expedition into the vast unknown, is not the only property guilty of lacking an imagination when it comes to space, but it is the latest. It has all the usual tropes — bustling metropolis, seedy neon-ridden port, late-stage capitalism, space pirates, and that's about it.
Especially now I have easy access to a handheld that benefits greatly from places like Humble Bundle and Fanatical. Get us in your feed Like us on Facebook Follow us on Twitter, starfield is boring. You're Welcome!!!
All that good stuff. Legendary games that are some of my favourite AAA open-world experiences, period. Hundreds of hours invested on multiple platforms. Fallout 4 was one of the first games I installed on my Steam Deck, just for the novelty of being able to take it along with me on a journey. The Elder Scrolls Online is a living, breathing masterpiece set in the expansive world of Tamriel. That also works great on my Steam Deck, after some tweaking. Fallout 76 was straight-up disappointing.
Last week Starfield could have been anything. But Starfield has one big, galaxy-sized twist. A ship you can customise and fly through the stars, systems with 1, planets spread between them. Bethesda games have always been about scale, but this sheer volume seems to have given my PC Gamer colleagues the fear. There's no way all those planets can be worth visiting, right? The basic argument is that Starfield would be more interesting with 10 hand-crafted planets than 1, presumably proc-genned worlds. Let's be real: Starfield is a Bethesda game. The showcase cemented the idea that this story isn't going to hold any surprises, with factions jostling over a fairly standard stellar frontier while some ancient alien nonsense lurks under the surface. The combat, both in space and on the ground, also looks like your standard floaty Bethesda affair, sitting somewhere between "unplayably janky" and "fine, I guess". What does a Starfield with 10 planets look like?

Though based on its current responses to negative Stream reviews, it sounds like Bethesda thinks Starfield is mostly fine as it is. The A.

I tried to tuff it out, but it's time to put down the controller on this one guys, hopefully the mod community can save it, or VR or something Starfield is an RPG with hundreds of hours of quests to complete and characters to meet. None of it adds anything substantial and it could easily be taken out, and some other story come up with, and it would make very little difference. You wouldn't have that problem if they were procedurally generated because they would be infinite. Tiasmoon View Profile View Posts. Which makes me sad.

Or how about a planet that defies the very definition of what we know as a planet? Bethesda is now on my list of "wait and see" game publishers. I played it for about 10 hours and the thing that struck me was how it felt like all the space stuff had been shoehorned into it at the last minute. High octane thrills in that one, I can tell you. So what did the devs themselves do in this game? Install Steam. Continue reading. Privacy Policy. I completed the main story Wondernutts View Profile View Posts.
