For many years a Wednesday night in Sherburn became an awesome site, with bikers descending on the small town, motorbikes of all makes and sizes as far as the eye could see, with Squires Milk Bar at the centre.
Since its inception it has grown in popularity with bikers from across Yorkshire and all over the UK. In , there was a need felt to move to a new location to accommodate the large number of patrons that visited the place. It shifted to an area close to the B, a favourite with bikers, to a large public house with ample area for numerous public events and camping. In , the cafe was purchased by the Bowness Family, who ensured the place retained its original charm and ambience. With a variety of events such as car and bike club meets, charity runs, best bike competitions, fund raisers and live concerts among others, it is a terrific place to visit when in the area.

I attended a couple of annual Laverda International weekend meetings there some years ago, in the days when I was supple enough to crawl in and out of a tent and I remember the facilities as being very good, with friendly staff and plenty of good quality food and beer on hand. Squires host many events, club meetings, charity runs, fundraisers, auto jumbles, best bike competitions, shows and even live concerts. Although extremely popular with bikers on Wednesday evenings and weekends, Squires can also cater for large private functions within their large function room and comfortable bar area. There have been several famous bands of the sixties and seventies performing at Squires, allowing you to take a journey back in time and the Yorkshire Rock and Bike Show is another famous annual event that Squires hosts. Squires have excellent facilities and make an ideal base for touring the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Club meetings at Squires are very popular as they provide a friendly and accommodating environment for bikers, they have excellent camping facilities for tents and caravans. Purchased by the Bowness family in , Dan Bowness has long supported bikers and their clubs and the VMCC as a whole, and despite being on the opposite side of the country, Dan and Squires very kindly supported an event that we organised in the North West for our VMCC section back in We are therefore pleased to include Squires within our website, as a great place for Bikers to gather. By Harry Weston, a young apprentice butcher in his family business, was a keen biker and a regular at Squires. It was during that Squires Bradbury and his wife, after nearly 20 years at the cafe decided to sell their business and retire. Harry Weston, by this time, had a butchers shop in Pontefract. When Harry now married to his wife Sue , saw the for sale sign above Squires they became interested in buying the business. With the ever-increasing popularity of the cafe, it was in that the present Newthorpe site just a few miles down the road from Sherburn was bought. This reduced congestion for bikers and allowed the good residents of Sherburn to have their town back.
