However, on average, it takes anywhere from one to two weeks for the area to heal after wisdom tooth removal. We recommend sticking to soft foods and liquids for at least a few days following your procedure to avoid irritating the extraction site. Try to avoid foods that are either extremely hot or cold and steer clear of straws. Straws can remove the blood clot too early and give you dry socket. The blood clot will stay in place until the gum tissue heals and the wound closes up. The stitches over the extraction site will last from seven to ten days, which usually lines up with when the blood clot will disappear.
