IBI Group designed the SODO Residences to create a strong accent building as an entrance to the downtown core and the newly-developing residential zone to the west in the Beltline District of Calgary, the largest city in the province of Alberta, Canada. The mixed-use project includes two storey towers, combining a suite Marriott Residence Inn and multi-residential units. The exterior expression of both towers contrast each other using colored, patterned window walls. The interiors were designed to cater to young and tech-savvy professionals, with lobby and amenity areas that support active spaces meant for gathering. A coffee station and mixture of work and lounge spaces welcome tenants on the ground floor, while a top-of-the-line show kitchen, full fitness studio, games room and lounge area complete the amenity offerings. A mixture of concrete tones and warm wood accents are contrasted by bold graphics and blackened steel elements to create a perfect balance of industrial edge while maintaining a sense of warmth.
