There's an NPC summon before the boss door, but when I look it says "This phantom will be summoned later at a separate location. Summon Slave Knight Gael? You get a titanite slab for summoning him. He is voiced by Stephen Boxer. In-Game Description. He has long, silver hair that reaches his shoulders and a large, gray beard which reaches down to his chest. After devouring many Pygmy Lords and absorbing the essence of the Dark Soul , Gael's size greatly increases. His torso is now larger in comparison to the rest of his body and his chest has a large hole in it, exposing and seeming to originate from his darksign. The mantle of his armor also increases in size, becoming akin to a cape. His greatsword is now damaged, having lost its tip and part of the fuller, and his shield is nowhere to be seen.

But Gael knew he was no Champion, that the dark soul would likely ruin him and that he had little hope of a safe return. When Gael came upon the pygmy lords, he discovered that their blood had long ago dried, and so consumed the dark soul. If his kill count against all players globally was recorded, it would easily be in the millions. Across 3 different phases, Gael unleashes standard, strike, thrust, and dark damage as well as being able to encourage the heavens to rain down blue-white bolts that deal lightning damage. The Slave Knight's origins are unknown, as he is mentioned in Dark Souls 3 to be a wanderer who likely ended up in The Ringed City much like how the player did and is experiencing the converging of worlds and times in a similar manner. He met the Painting Woman, creator of the Painted World, at some point and sought to find her a pigment to complete her work. This is when the player finds him; after he was finally able to track down a source for the required color: the Dark Soul. Though, the blood of the pygmy lords had dried up long ago, so Gael consumed the soul of darkness in order to turn his own blood into the black pigment needed. Wielding his greatsword while performing fast maneuvers both toward and away from the player, he is a tough foe to defend against or find an opening to land a strike on. Patience is a virtue here, so be sure to conserve enough stamina to roll away or through all of his many, frenzied assaults. Depending on the player's weapon and build, there will be different tactics that one should focus on, such as whether to roll or block as well as contemplating weapon damage type choice. One thing that was amazing with the executioner's greatsword though was how easy it was to stagger the poor bastard! True, you likely will get hit afterwards, but not always, because if you hit a lot like that, you might stun him twice in a row! I love some fight thats fair and square. And the ash to kindle flame I don't know if people know this If during 2nd or 3rd phase player manage to stagger Gael by hitting his head, he can perform a critical strike, but time for performing this action is very short.
