In The Final Descent quest, Crescius Caerillius is convinced that the remains of his great-grandfather, Gratian Caerilliusare at the bottom of the mine and that the East Empire Company has falsely designated his ancestor's death as an accident.
The fact that Raven Rock had seen better days is one of the first things that are apparent after your voyage from Skyrim. One of them, Crescius Caerellius, has been searching for his great-grandfather's remains and journal in the belief that the mines had been wrongfully closed and that there was more ebony to be found within. Too old to enter himself, you can search for him. You start this quest by entering Raven Rock Mine, on the north of the settlement. The mines have been shut down long ago and should be empty.

The vertical fissures, up and down, require an aimed vertical power attack. Eventually the fissures you see on the side will be gone and there will be a fissure in the door and you will need to do the vertical power attack aimed at that new fissure. That should open the door. Good luck! You have to aim up as two new horizontal ones appear at the sides near the top after the first two sets.

He tasks the player with exploring the mine on his behalf to locate the remains, and perhaps discovering what killed Gratian Caerillius. This quest takes place inside Raven Rock Mine. Enter the mine, and follow the passage. Inside are two characters having a heated discussion in the first room of the mine, Crescius Caerillius and his wife Aphia Velothi. Speak to Aphia first, and then to Crescius.
