Jarrahdale is a small historic town located 45 km south-east of Perth , Western Australia in the Darling Range. The name is derived from its situation in a jarrah forest. Established in the late s as the state's first major timber milling operation, it played a key role in the development of Western Australia through the exportation of jarrah around the world. When sandalwood was discovered in the area in the s, a trail was established from the King George Sound track future Albany highway along Gooralong Brook through modern day Jarrahdale to the Bunbury road future South Western highway in order to export sandalwood. From the s to the s, the area north, south and east of Jarrahdale were settled by white settlers. Here they farmed vegetables and sheep, while the wheat grown was turned into flour at Batt's mill established by Joseph Batt. During the Great Flood in , the South West received torrential rains.
