We made a reservation just in case and from the looks of it, it was totally necessary. We arrived to a busy restaurant and were promptly seated. A pitcher of water was delivered and a sheet to mark of the food we wanted, shabusen yakiniku house.

The start of September comes with a new restaurant review… Shabusen Yakiniku House. My fellow friends from Seattle came up this past weekend. We initially wanted to try Korean BBQ and we tried going online to sieve out some good places. I learned that Yelp is not commonly used in Vancouver, BC. People here use Urbanspoon more? I personally prefer the Yelp template. When we entered the restaurants, it was noisy and bustling with people talking. The aroma of semi-charred meat filled the entire restaurant. We were asked to wait for minutes to an hour? We waited roughly for an hour. Try to make a reservation or expect to wait that long. The Yakiniku Bulgogi set allows you to choose a meat spicy pork, beef, chicken and it comes with rice, miso soup and some sides dishes. The first picture shows the spicy pork and beef. I have to mention that the meat was really delicious — I believe it is how it was marinated. The meat was succulent and juicy.

For me, Shabusen offers good value, taking into account the price and the overall selection of food. Spicy Gyoza.

I would really recommend the Vancouver roll — unagi eel and tempura potato with avocados. The selection of food items is quite extensive for dinner and the lunch menu is better than most other AYCE places. I can understand that it is a little inconvenient but we were leaving around the time where it was nearing to closing. This is where we went wrong. This is all because we totally over ordered the sushis and was forced to bail out the boys when they started saying they felt sick! You know what you should have tried? It takes time to cook individual pieces. In round one we ordered beef short rib, BBQ beef, spicy gyoza, 2 toro nigiri, 4 unagi nigiri, 8 pieces of salmon sashimi, 2 pieces of tuna sashimi, 1 chopped scallop temaki hand roll , 4 oyster motoyaki, and 3 agedashi tofu. The boys were so worried that we will be dinged for having unfinished food.
