But for the casual moviegoer, how review aggregators work, what they measure, and how they affect ticket sales can be mysterious. So when I got curious about how people perceive Rotten Tomatoes and its effect on ticket sales, I did what any self-respecting film critic does: I informally polled my Twitter followers to see what they wanted to know.

The Circle is a American techno-thriller film directed by James Ponsoldt with a screenplay by Ponsoldt and Dave Eggers , based on Eggers' novel of the same name. The film's release was posthumous for Paxton, who died in February , and it was the final film of Headly's released before her death in June Mae takes the job, hoping to support her parents, particularly her father who suffers from multiple sclerosis , while Mae's long time friend Mercer Ellar Coltrane is less supportive. Mae rises quickly in The Circle, embracing social networking and meeting Ty Lafitte John Boyega , who displays suspicion of other, more enthusiastic employees. Ty subsequently shows Mae the area containing the cloud server where all information collected by SeeChange is to be stored. Mae is embarrassed when she realizes that Ty is the creator of TrueYou, the Circle's social network , and she had not recognized him. He tells her that TrueYou has grown out of his control, and its current utilization is not what he intended. Later, Mae's mother shows Mae a picture of a chandelier Mercer made from deer antlers. She photographs it and shares it on her Circle profile. The image attracts significant negative attention to Mercer, with people accusing him of killing the deer. Mercer confronts her at work and tells her to leave him alone. At the next meeting, Eamon introduces Mae to the crowd and they discuss her experience of the rescue, which moves her to become the first "Circler" to go "completely transparent," which involves wearing a small camera and exposing her life to the world 24 hours a day. However, this damages her relationships with her parents and Annie, as she accidentally exposes private aspects of their lives to the camera, and they distance themselves from her as a result.

The opening moments of The Lion King are some of the most powerful moments Disney animators have ever put to screen: from the second Lebo M. Twenty-five years on, it has lost none of its ability to drop your jaw. And yet. Originally, the scene — now widely regarded as one of the most awe-inspiring movie openings ever — was going to be quite different. For starters, rather than simply show the animals wordlessly moving towards Pride Rock, the scene was to feature dialogue; one early iteration would have them sing a prayer in Swahili. Ultimately, the filmmakers went in a different direction, opting for zero dialogue, and move history was made. The highlight of "The Circle" is producer-costar Tom Hanks ' performance as the CEO of the titular company, a Google- or Apple-styled high-tech octopus that's spreading its tentacles into every nook of our lives. The brilliance of Hanks' performance as Eamon Bailey, founder of The Circle, is that it's not remarkably different from the humble, charming average guy performance he gives as himself whenever he goes on talk shows, accepts awards, or narrates a documentary about the unsung heroes of World War II. For whatever reason, you can't help trusting Tom Hanks. That's why " The Simpsons Movie " cast him in a voice cameo selling "The New Grand Canyon," a name for the hole that would have been left in the ground if the military went through with its plan to bomb the recently contaminated town of Springfield into oblivion. The notion that Tom Hanks, a patriotic emblem right up there with apple pie and the American flag, would be hired to put a smiley face on an American Hiroshima is scarier than a lot of current horror films. You just know that if he ever used his considerable influence for evil rather than good, almost no one would resist him, and the handful that warned against him would not be believed. And yet Hanks has never played a straight-up bad guy who chills you to the bone whenever he shows up onscreen. The closest he's gotten to that sort of character was in "The Road to Perdition," where he played a mob hitman who was more of a morose antihero than a bad guy, and the " The Ladykillers ," a slapstick comedy that cast him as an obnoxious, bumbling Satan with a Foghorn Leghorn accent.
