Review bombed games
Bethesda's newest game, Starfield , is currently being review bombed by users on Metacritic. As the first single-player Bethesda game since Fallout 4 launched in , Starfield has enjoyed a great deal of hype. For some, Starfield lived up to the hype and met their expectations. Others are less enthusiastic about the game, feeling that Starfield falls short of great Bethesda games of the past like Skyrim. While the game certainly has its critics, most Starfield reviews have been positive and the game has also been met with enthusiasm by the community. Starfield has a Very Positive rating on Steam and has had over 1 million concurrent players across all platforms, making it one of the biggest launches of the year. Starfield has been record-breaking for Bethesda, but that hasn't saved it from a review bombing effort. There are undoubtedly some individuals who are doing this because Starfield is an Xbox console exclusive , but there are others who express legitimate gripes alongside their extremely low scores. There are some who aren't a fan of Starfield 's planets and exploration, and there are others who have experienced some technical problems with the game. At one point, Starfield 's overall user scores dipped into the red, but a reverse-review bombing effort has seen it climb back up a bit. The Starfield user review score has now settled in the middle with a 5.

Review bombing, at least that exact phrase, is a relatively new concept in gaming. EA included problematic DRM software that limited players to only 3 installations. Understandably frustrated, players flooded Amazon with one-star reviews over the issue. Oh EA, if only you know what you were unleashing onto the world. Its characters were wonderful, its narrative came with a nice helping of replayability, and it sold better than any past installment.
Though it is not doing well on Steam right now, Overwatch 2 seems optimistic towards its future. Recently, Overwatch 2 released Season 6: Invasion. However, the FPS was quickly review bombed by fans, with Overwatch 2 becoming the lowest-ranked game on the platform overnight. Now, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller has made an official statement on the poor Steam reviews in a recent post. While he recognized the justified frustration on their failure to deliver on that promise, Keller spoke optimistically about the future of both PvP and PvE in Overwatch 2. According to activeplayer. Most months since then have seen a slight decline in activity in Overwatch 2 , but its population has remained mostly stable since then.
Review bombed games
Review aggregate sites like Metacritic and OpenCritic provide an opportunity for anyone, not just members of games media, to review a game. Occasionally, this open-door policy leads to people intentionally leaving negative scores before even playing the game. PlayStation first-party titles have a long history of being review bombed, and the Burning Shores DLC is the latest in a series of console exclusives being given poor user scores for reasons not pertaining to gameplay. Sometimes these review-bombing campaigns have the negative impact of clouding the conversation surrounding a game, to the point where any discourse about the merits of the title is clouded by the polarizing effect it had on players. Whether continuations of popular franchises like The Last of Us 2 or brand-new titles that signal the beginning of a new IP, Sony's high-quality first-party exclusives are releases that garner a significant amount of attention upon their release. As a result, these high-profile games have a history of getting review-bombed.
