Until now, the Final Fantasy games have never quite had their angry, moody dark moment. FFXVI is the first game in the series made for the PS5, expanding the detail of both character models and environments. While the significant characters move and emote realistically, Square Enix has kept an artistic touch to character design. These include your childhood friend Jill, the mysterious daddy of thunder, Cid, and several more spoiler ish additions. Beginning concept development in , the staff included Naoki Yoshida as producer, Hiroshi Takai as main director, artists Hiroshi Minagawa and Kazuya Takahashi, Kazutoyo Maehiro as creative director and lead writer, Masayoshi Soken as composer, and Capcom veteran Ryota Suzuki as battle designer.
