She was prepared to kill both him and his brother Ezran, albeit out of reluctance due to her empathetic nature. However, after finding out the egg of the Dragon Prince was intact, she followed the princes through the secret tunnel and was amazed to find that Callum is a mage after witnessing him cast a spell to save her. She defended him in an attempt to stop the king's assassination and held off Runaan while the boys escaped with the egg. Seeing him return heartbroken about his stepfather , she offered to risk her life to rescue him if he chose so, but they instead fled the castle. Afterward, she journeyed with the princes to return the egg, yet behaved distant, which led to a few arguments between them during the journey.

Callum first met Rayla during a planned assassination of both King Harrow and his son Ezran , where she was quick to attack the princes upon stepping into the castle of Katolis. Once they discovered the egg of the Dragon Prince , both of them set aside the hatred of their heritages to join forces.

In the canon graphic novel, The Dragon Prince: Through the Moon , Rayla discovers that Viren is still alive and departs alone on a mission to find and stop him once and for all. Set two years after the events of season 3, King Ezran strives for peace between the realms while Viren searches for the evil elf Aaravos to ensure his resurrection. Callum was taken prisoner by Finnegrin for helping Ezran in stealing his Glow Toads. He fought alongside, humans, dragons, and elves to protect him, and felt joy when Zym was reunited with his mother. She also tried to work up the courage to tell them about his fate, but couldn't finish due to their current predicament. Continuing on their adventures Callum sees the Glow Toad as a valuable team member, he refused to leave Bait left behind and was sad to see him, Stella and Zym in cages as Finnegrin's prisoners after Callum was done being shocked by Elmer, Bait croaked in concern with the prince answering, "he's fine". Maybe wait until she's in a good mood. Clutching him close, Rayla felt relieved to finally know what happened to him. After she regained consciousness, they kissed, much to Ezran's and Bait's surprise. In attempt to escape to him she witnessed Callum cast a spell that took the wind from the Sea Legs, but held him close seeing the toll it took on him. Left with no choice, he freed himself with dark magic, rescued her and mastered the arcanum of the Ocean as well, after Finnegrin was swallowed by the leviathan, the battered couple shared an embrace. When it appeared as though she had been buried under Umber Tor, Callum held her butterfly blade close but hearing her call out from under the rubble he and the team dug her out and afterwards Callum finally embraced her relieved that she had come back as she happily returned the hug.

After two years, the characters of The Dragon Prince are once again running across the magical realm of Xadia.

Before climbing the Storm Spire, Rayla referred to Zym as the hope between their kingdoms. Despite that, Rayla started to educate Callum on the Primal Sources , the types of elves that live in Xadia [1] and during a boat ride down the river talked about her home and her parents. But that would have to wait as corrupted banthers soon overwhelmed the group, after a pitched battle, believing this to be the end, he apologized to Rayla for his behavior and held her hand prepared to go down fighting only to be saved by the Dragon Queen. What if Xadia never banished humans to the west? For almost a decade now, life has been peaceful for the royal family of Katolis. Due to Azymondias's recent birth, not much of a relationship has yet been established between the two, however, from his egg stage, at first he too thought Azymondias's egg was destroyed but upon finding him in Viren's chambers alive, Callum saw the former prince's egg as a beacon of hope of saving his father and ending the war. However seeing that Azymondias was alive and well, she was the only one to give up her act of revenge towards the King and worked with princes to try and save him despite his actions. She got up carefully and walked like a drunk person to the river to clean around her mouth and to get rid of the nasty taste in her mouth. She wasn't showing yet but she will in about a week or two. Both of these things were told to him by Harrow through a letter after Callum had retrieved the cube from the Banther Lodge. Later on their way to the Great Bookery in Lux Aurea, they shared a tender moment stargazing and once in Lux Aurea after gaining clarity from Amaya, she told him the truth about her actions at castle revealing that her loved ones were trapped in cursed coins and was happy that Callum found a way to free them but that would have to wait.
