As WWE continues to build toward WrestleMania 40, the promotion appeared to use Raw on Monday night to plant the final seeds for one of the year's biggest matches. As Jey Uso was on the verge of ending Gunther's record-breaking run as intercontinental champion in the show's main event, Jimmy Uso intervened to cost his twin brother the title. Jimmy's interference came as Jey seemingly had the title won. Jimmy then added insult to injury by continuing to assault his brother after the match ended. This will almost certainly lead to the Usos facing off in singles action at WrestleMania, which takes place on April 6 and 7 from Philadelphia.

Raquel Rodriguez is officially back and sent a message to the Elimination Chamber field by winning the Last Chance Battle Royal in thrilling fashion to punch her ticket to Perth. Rodriguez's return was not well received in the ring, but the powerhouse used her incredible might to eliminate Xia Li and Isla Dawn early. The chaos was palpable as every Superstar in the ring battled for the opportunity to compete inside the Elimination Chamber, with Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler teaming up to eliminate several Superstars. The teamwork of The Judgment Day proved to be formidable, but R-Truth and his teammates weathered the storm and fought back in a big way. Ivar used his incredible mix of speed and athleticism to gain any advantage, but the grit and determination of Gable carried him across the finish line. Gable managed to deadlift suplex the pound Ivar, hit a picture-perfect moonsault and locked in an Ankle Lock that forced the Viking Raider to tap out. Jey Uso was mere moments away from ending the historic reign of Gunther and winning the Intercontinental Title before his brother, Jimmy Uso, cost him the win. The historic reign of Gunther continued as he successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship against Jey Uso. The champion's mocking of the challenger led to a quintet of huge spears from Uso, but he could not find a way to defeat Gunther. Gunther was seemingly down for the count after an Uso Splash, but Jimmy Uso suddenly appeared at ringside and began ringing the bell, allowing Gunther to capitalize on the distraction and retain his title to continue his historic reign. After weeks of buildup, Cody Rhodes and Shinsuke Nakamura stepped into the ring on Monday to see if they could put this feud to bed once and for all. Let's take a look at what CM Punk had to say and everything else that happened on Monday's show. Raw opened with Drew McIntyre in the ring talking about how he came up short last week in his quest to win the world title. After a couple of minutes of ranting, CM Punk made his way to the ring. The Scottish Warrior ripped into Punk for various reasons. Tensions rose, but The Best in the World said he was going to walk away before it turned into a fight. He made sure to tell McIntyre he would eliminate him last in the men's Royal Rumble match.

With the Royal Rumble more than a month away, WWE used Monday night's edition of Raw to deliver solid wrestling and continue building toward the Day One edition of Raw to kick off the new year. The show featured a trio of title matches, including one title change. Intercontinental Championship -- Gunther c def. The Miz via pinfall to retain the title. After a lengthy back-and-forth contest, Gunther finally got the win after hitting a powerbomb, ripcord lariat and a second powerbomb to extend his record-breaking run with the title. Gunther would confront his Imperium underlings later in the night, saying he was taking a few weeks off and he expected them to get things together and finally start getting the job done in his absence. Chance and Carter finished off Green with the Afterparty to become champions. After addressing other women's tag teams backstage, the new champions left, only for Natalya and Tegan Nox to point out to Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark that new champions need new challengers.

With WrestleMania rapidly approaching, Drew McIntyre is not content to be lost in the shuffle after earning his shot at the world heavyweight championship. Rhodes and Rollins agreed to have one another's back when the duo head to SmackDown on Friday night to answer Rock's challenge in person. But when Rollins ignored McIntyre to save Jey Uso later in the night, an enraged McIntyre delivered a violent message as the show went off the air. Reigns on Night 2. Rhodes said he understood if Rollins didn't want to participate in the match and instead focus on his world heavyweight championship defense against Drew McIntyre. But Rollins said some things are too big to pass up and taking down Rock and Reigns are one of those things. The duo ended the segment by saying they would both confront The Bloodline live on SmackDown to formally deliver their response to the challenge for a tag match. Drew McIntyre def.

The look on Rhodes' face after Nakamura hit a stiff kick to the chest was the perfect way to sell it. It felt like Mr. Chelsea Green snuck into the ring, having not been eliminated earlier, to try and steal the win but was tossed by Rodriguez. Most revolved around the Intercontinental Championship. Not only did Gunther defeat Dominik Mysterio handedly, setting JD McDonagh up for the gauntlet match next week, but Sami Zayn also earned a massive win over Ivar, giving him victories in back-to-back weeks heading into the gauntlet.

More hilarity ensued as Truth expressed his disappointment in the dismantling of his relationship with The Judgment Day and then wandered aimlessly in a blue poncho. After the match, Jimmy assaulted Jey with multiple splashes to close out the show. Gunther followed with one of his own off a splash for two.
