The Alchemy Map is a visual representation of the abstract space traversed by the potion -making process. It contains information which the aspiring alchemist can use to make brewing decisions. The state of the currently brewing potion is indicated by the potion marker , a bottle containing liquid. Adding ingredients to the cauldron causes their paths to be plotted, adding to the end of the existing path, starting from the potion marker. Stirring the cauldron causes the marker to irreversibly traverse the plotted path, while using the ladle causes the potion marker to move towards the origin. These silhouettes mirror the outline of the bottle which traverses the Map through the process of brewing, and each initially contains a question mark. An effect can be imbued into a brewing potion by using the bellows while the potion marker is touching the effect marker. After the first time an effect is imbued, its marker will instead display a symbol corresponding to the effect. The effect is imbued with a tier —I, II, or III—occupying a like number of the 5 spaces on a potion with the effect symbol, depending on how closely the potion marker is centered on the effect marker when the bellows are used. These spiral marks respond to the bellows, rotating in the direction of their lines based on the current heat of the cauldron.
