Aguadilla is a coastal municipality right at the northwest point of the island attracting tourists in the winter for its surfing beaches, scenic sunsets, and interesting places to explore on the west coast. Many locals and surfers in the know will argue that Aguadilla rivals the more known surfing town of Rincon. Aguadilla is home to the Rafael Hernandez Airport , an international airport welcoming visitors seeking a beach vacation on the laid-back towns of the west coast , offering cheap daily flights to and from Orlando and NYC area airports. The airport is on the site of what used to be the U. Aguadilla is the most commercialized municipality in the northwest region with many local businesses, factories, a shopping mall, and one of the only two ice skating rings in the Caribbean. Aguadilla feels like many of the traditional towns in Puerto Rico , not overtaken by tourism.

I live in Aguadilla , and grew up visiting the beaches I am about to share. Crash Boat ranks top three in every top ten Puerto Rico beaches list. White sands, crystal clear water, and a pier to jump off the water make Crash Boat Beach a favorite among beach lovers. You can also practice several water sports at Crash Boat Beach. Wishing Wells surfers call this beach is a secluded beach, but it is worth your time. Survival Beach is simply the best hiking beach in all of Puerto Rico. A forty-minute hike will take you to this spectacular beach. You will see giant rock formations and caves on your way to Survival Beach. Survival is not the best beach for swimming, but it is excellent for taking pictures. The name of the beach translates to the singing of the boulders. For poet Jose de Diego, the waves hitting the rocks sounded like the stones were singing.
Some beaches are known for their calm clear water, and some are known worldwide for their world-class surfing. Try to visit on weekdays, because the beach gets crowded on weekends.

During the winter months, the west end of the beach becomes a playground for surfers. Beach volleyball is a popular pastime for young locals during sunset. If you love photography, Crash boat is a great spot at sunset. The cool thing about Crash Boat is that in one location you get 3 different beaches, each appealing to a specific group, one of the reasons this beach is so popular among locals. The water is beautiful, with various shades from crystal clear, baby blue to cerulean blue tones on the north side and emerald green tones on the southern side of the pier.
