Quicksilver Pietro Maximoff is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character has since starred in two self-titled limited series and has historically been depicted as a regular team member in superhero title The Avengers.

The speedster gave his life to protect Hawkeye, who was in the middle of saving a child from the titular villain. Because this was also Pietro's MCU debut, audiences were surprised to see him killed off so soon. Although many MCU characters have come back from the dead, there has been little indication that Quicksilver will ever return. When Age of Ultron initially released, there were a lot of rumors about why Pietro had met his untimely demise. Because the film came out before Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, some believed the death resulted from issues over the two companies' shared rights to the character. At the time, who owned the rights to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver was a grey area, particularly thanks to the latter's notable involvement in the X-Men and as a primary Avenger. While rights may have been a factor, there's been no official confirmation on the subject.

As HYDRA was harnessing the power of the scepter for a variety of effects, such as powering paraphernalia ranging from their own technology to Chitauri tech recovered from New York, Strucker approaches a group of Sokovian rioters, offering them the power needed to save their country. Among the rioters are twins Pietro and Wanda Maximoff. The Sokovians agree, and each undergo a number of tests where they are exposed to the scepter's energy; out of all of the test subjects, only the Maximoffs survive. The Twins joined the fight and Pietro caught Hawkeye's arrows before they could hit their target and taunted him asking "you didn't see that coming? Ultron, knowing that the Twins hated Stark, met with them in a Sokovian monastery where Pietro explained how their family was killed by Tony Stark's bombs.

Quicksilver is eventually lured into a trap by the Earth Machine Man and subsequently destroyed.

But are we talking about the cool kid with the goggles who saves everyone in the X Mansion? The two were born in Sokovia, a small, made-up Eastern European country. At the age of 10, their parents were killed using Stark weaponry, engendering them with a deep hatred for Tony Stark. The Mind Stone within the scepter gave Pietro and Wanda their superpowers. She got a mysterious suite of psionic powers that allow her to warp reality, and he got Pietro died in the same movie in which he was introduced, saving Hawkeye and a Sokovian child from a hail of Ultron-fired bullets.
