Founded in the early 20th century, seaside Pescara is the most populous city in the region of Abruzzo. Located along the Adriatic Sea at the mouth of the Aterno river, Pescara is popular in summertime thanks to its ribbons of sandy beaches lined with stabilimenti private beach clubs , eateries and pop-up bars. The coast is low and sandy and the beach extends, unbroken for some distance to both the north and the south of the river, reaching a width of approximately metres yd in the area around a pineta a small pine forest to the north.
