Pathfinder bard handbook

Bards are the experts and the performers of the adventuring world, shredders of guitars and seducers of dragons, bards can be built into sly party faces, skill masters, and cornerstone party buffs.

The remastered Player Core book for Second Edition Pathfinder makes some substitutions for which classes are featured in their main roster. With the sorcerer shifted out of the main roster in favor of the witch, bards have a special niche as the only remastered class to wield spontaneous casting. These changes make bard suitable as a good class option for first-time players or converts from adjacent systems. With a healthy blend of spellcasting, utility skills, and support powers, they give a glimpse into many different parts of the broader game system without requiring mastery of all the individual parts. Pathfinders Bards have multiple roles they can fit into depending on the character concept you are aiming for and the class features that appeal to you the most.

Mollie Russell. Published: Jul 31, A Pathfinder Bard values creativity and charisma above all else, using these skills to create great works of art as well as powerful magical effects. A Pathfinder player , on the other hand, has different priorities. Perhaps they want to master support, offering the perfect combat buffs at the right time. Or maybe they want an expansive list of skills that make checks a breeze. This guide takes you through all the basics of the Pathfinder 2e Bard. After that, be sure to pick one of the suitable Pathfinder races , fill in your Pathfinder character sheet , and have a great time playing. The Bard class gives you an automatic boost to its primary ability score, Charisma. You start with a hit point maximum of eight plugs your Constitution modifier, and that max increases by this number each time you level up. You can choose what these extra proficiencies are. There are plenty of class-specific features your Bard will gain access to as they grow.

Proficiencies : Light armor and shields, and a small selection of martial weapons including the Longsword and Rapier. For some reason the Bard gets proficiency with the Whip. The Bard gets all Knowledge skills as class skills, and Bardic Knowledge adds a heft bonus to Knowledge checks, making the Bard one of the easiest Librarians in the game with only a few skill ranks. As you grow in level you can perform as smaller actions, allowing you to quickly cycle songs and rely on Lingering Performance to keep their effects running without expending performance rounds. The biggest limitation on Bardic performance is that a bard cannot have more than one bardic performance in effect at one time.

When selecting your Versatile Performance skills, be sure to avoid duplicates.

The range? Bard Weapon Expertise : You are still garbage with weapons. If your character is going to be more of a tripper, start with the combat expertise chain. Also, consider the times where someone is able to use Power Attack where they otherwise might not because of the lower attack bonus. Calm emotions covers an area, and those affected cannot attack unless attacked first. While Dazzled, his odds are looking even worse. You just need to select oratory or sing as one of your performance options. Again rare but helpful otherwise. I am extremely unimpressed with the Chronicler. Check the racial traits for ones that will increase your versatility or synergize well with your existing class features. Meaning that your damaging spells will have the same number of damage dice and the same save DCs as a Sorcerer with the same Charisma. The 1 min duration is the limitation, but after all, you can cast it over and over again.

The Bard is a versatile spellcasting class that can thrive in a variety of roles. Their signature role is as a Support character, but they can also serve as a Healer, Librarian, Scout, and Utility caster depending on your build. Successful bards needs to be very comfortable with managing their action economy, tracking status conditions, and supporting the party indirectly.

They're a jack-of-all-trades but don't have to sacrifice specialization in the process. Even if you are not a controller bard you will use spell sometimes and other spell casters in your party will love it. Also, it suppresses all kinds of buffs, but removes confusion, which is a condition that can otherwise destroy your party. My personal recommendation? Did I mention it doesn't have a save? Int and Wis bring up the rear. As you grow in level you can perform as smaller actions, allowing you to quickly cycle songs and rely on Lingering Performance to keep their effects running without expending performance rounds. All should work reasonably well, though they all do it in different ways. Even if they fail their save, there is a decent possibility that they will act normally for that one round. Flare is the only at-will debuff available to the Bard that doesn't come with a HD limit. The Enigma is the master of knowing stuff about stuff. Finally, the Bard is a knowledge class. Uplifting Overture is the perfect utility cantrip, aiding the entire party on skill checks and succeeding automatically at higher levels. Bards have no arcane spell failure when wearing light armor, but Mithril armor is treated as one step lighter "for the purposes of movement and other restrictions", but is it really one step lighter?
