Old ping putters
Clubs Putters.
Was checking out my local Goodwill and thought I had struck out but saw an old putter tucked under a few other clubs and took a glance at it but upon further inspection saw a VERY old PING logo and picked it up. I see putters with stamped numbers on the bottom of the putter are listed for MUCH more than standard putters but I haven't seen another 69 FTL with a number stamp on the bottom like this one does and I haven't seen any 69 FTL with Scottsdale markings, they all seem to have Phoenix markings. Any and all help is much appreciated to help me figure out what I have. From a little digging the grip is an original Golf Pride "Informer" pistol grip with the green lettering, it has the remnants of the original Tuned Ballnamic label on the shaft, has the 11 stamped on bottom of heel, is a Scottsdale putter before the move to Phoenix. Found this information on PING Collectibles Manual which was helpful but trying to get more information on when it was made and also the value of the putter. Again, any and all help is much appreciated. Are you a part of the "old school Ping group" on Facebook?

In January of , Karsten Solheim designed the Anser putter, a model so successful that PING celebrated its 50th anniversary in see story below. The idea came to him, as inspiration often does, in a flash. He sketched the design on the dust jacket of a 78 rpm record. The cavity-back putter also featured a low center of gravity and lines parallel to the face to help golfers in squaring the putter. All he needed now was a name. Since it was the answer to a particularly vexing problem — putting -- his wife Louise suggested they name it "Answer. With a deadline looming to get the design to the engraver's shop, Louise then said, "Leave out the 'w'. Today, the innovations introduced in the Anser putter can be found in just about every putter on the market, making it not only the most popular design, but the most copied. It's no exaggeration to say that Karsten Solheim and his Anser putter changed putting forever. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Anser putter, in PING introduced a limited-edition version of the iconic model made from the original molds, assembled with components made in the U. The radiuses on both of the hand-machined tools were finished with a file and sandpaper by Karsten.

Not bashing modern stuff, but you get a lot of bang out of your buck with older Ping stuff that plays well. I'm put a superstroke on a 36 inch Pal and did well with it this AM for 9. I like the more compact look of the Pal so far. Maine Golfer 22 posts. November 1,
PING continues to innovate with putters to this day, recently launching the Sigma 2 putter with a shaft that can be adjusted to the player. Woods has thought a lot about that question. It is pretty important when you consider that. So where did it all begin? A golfer for years who could break 80, Solheim felt his putting was the worst part of his game, and blamed some of that on his putter. His work as an engineer led him to think he could devise a better putter. With that, Solheim commenced developing a putter that would be more forgiving. But beyond that, Solheim recognized that by moving weight to the outside of perimeter of the putter, it would make it more stable, and limit the twisting he experienced with his old putter. In many ways that led to a revolution in golf that is still central to equipment development to this day. He also liked the sound the new putter made—PING—and used it as the brand name for his new product.
